Here's a quick preface to my latest 2nd Gen. Acura MDX dilemma- my vices in life are:
1.) Shopping (esp. purses & shoes!)
2.) Diet Coke (over consumption!!)
3.) TOUCHLESS CAR WASHES (ABUSE- I've never crossed paths with a touchless car wash that I had never eventually taken any of my cars through, and I'd say on average that I've had my 2009 Acura MDX taken to a touchless car wash at LEAST once every week- even during snow packed winters) for the past 8 years consistently!!)....

that being said, I walk out to my hospital's work parking lot today and while cleaning off some rain that had accumulated on my MDX's roof just hours earlier, noticed that the small (color matched) roof mounted 'cover' to my MDX's (roof mounted- towards the rear of SUV) Acura Care/XM radio ANTENNA is missing?!!! WTH..
Here are a couple photo's that I captured with my cell phone (while risking the life of my 4 foot 11 inch frame climbing atop this massive 2.5 ton behemoth SUV) that shows the (Bali Blue colored) missing antenna cover:
<img src="http://www.mdxers.org/gallery/uploads/26865/MDX-ANTENNA-COVER1.jpg" width="45%" height="45%"><img src="http://www.mdxers.org/gallery/uploads/26865/MDX-ANTENNA-COVER2.jpg" width="40%" height="40%">

My initial instinct was to blame it on the ghetto/city of Detroit, but what possible resale value could the roof mounted ANTENNA cover for an MDX's Acura Care/XM radio (thank goodness the GPS of our cars is located along the center console towards the front of our vehicles!!)...it's a very STRANGE problem b/c my XM radio is working perfectly fine- and the ONLY thing I can think of that might have caused BIZARRE PROBLEM this was this super-duper new touchless car wash that I had visited while travelling through Indiana last week- that seemed to be equipped with hurricane force like water jet streams and blowers?!!!!

So I now find myself at work, preoccupied/scrambling to search through eBay- looking at potential antenna covers for 2009 MDX's (problem is I don't really know what particular part(s) I should be look for, and/or what exactly I should be replacing?!!!)....the replacement (2007-2009 MDX) roof (XM) antenna appear to comprise whole units (not just the colored cover on top)- which for now doesn't appear to be what I really need?

*Pictures of a potential REPLACEMENT (2nd gen. MDX) XM radio roof mounted antenna on eBay:

One of my goto Acura suppliers (Curry Acura) has this part available- but why the heck does the diagram look nothing like the actual part in real life- is that a Honda/Acura thing/flaw (do their diagrams/pictures often times not look anything like the actual product?!)

Should I just take the cost effective/instant fix measure (go all out ghetto) and get this Shark Fin adhesive product from ebay which is adverstised to 'fit 2007-2009 MDX) and cover this open area (on roof of my 2009 Acura MDX) up?!!!

So in summary, it looks like (to no surprise) a separate 2007-2009 Acura MDX (OEM) XM radio antenna 'cover' isn't available to order- I have to buy the whole assembly (about $110 bucks- STEALERSHIP price for main assembly unit + bolt)- just placed an order online with CURRY Acura for about half this amount (including next day air shipping)- would rather do this than get the cheap China made 'shark fin' fake antenna from eBay!

NOTE TO SELF- never go back to that super duper heavy blaster touchless car wash again!!!

*or else this can happen- what's left of my roof mounted XM radio antenna (XM radio still functioning okay...lol):

well I used to drive fast often (have been cutting down lately- part of 'growing up' I suppose :| )...but I don't think I've ever reached 120mph on my 2009 MDX (which is likely the top speed that this car is limited to thanks to that 'speed governer' thingy)...I've maybe reached like 116mph which is crazy enough for me...
http://www.mdxers.org/forums/74-second-generation-mdx-2007-2013/44243-how-fast-do-you-think-mdx-could-go-without-limiter.html

i'm fairly certain it was the frequent touchless car washes that caused the damage- I estimate my 2009 MDX to have gone through approximately +515 touchless car washes since it rolled off the stealership lot brand spanking new back in March of 2009...and finally the frequent 'water blasting' caught up to me- somehow blowing the top (color matched) portion of my MDX's roof mounted XM radio antenna right off!! :crying2:

while I'm glad that the XM radio still works fine, I need to cover this thing up a.s.a.p.!

 I suppose that IF I had never used ZAINO paint sealant since day one (back in 2009) on my MDX, those 500+ car washes would have definitely taken their toll on the paint- but believe it or not, my paint job still looks relatively new!- esp. right after a car wash- I don't know if it's a Japanese/Honda thing, but I'm very happy with the paint quality on this car- nothing like the POS GM I used to drive back when my parents gave me a car back in high school- those GM cars rust within the first year and are truly money puts (esp. the noe defunct Oldsmobile brand!!!).

but yes, I believe that the ZAINO paint sealant product has ALOT to do with why my '09 MDX's paint job is still in superior condition!!! :29:

what the fastest u ever driven any vehicle?? i hit 194mph ( thats gps ) on my turboed hayabusa
that fastest I've ever personally driven myself was that single time (in my MDX) when I hit 116mph on the open freeway...would never do that again- the penalties are probably very high (felony?...jail time??)....

as for fastest ever- perhaps around 120mph? in one of my former bougie gal pals back in college back in 2007....she had a relatively new Lotus Esprit (V8) at at the age of 23- I'm pretty sure that car could go faster, but she chickened out (b/c i was about to pass out if she went any faster!) :surprise:

I have the same issue with my 2007. How did you end up fixing the antenna?
Although the coverless/exposed antenna was still 100% functional in my case, I opted to have the whole part replaced (which requires technician to work inside your MDX along the interior, upholstered roof lining- of course the Acura stealership will rape you on this labor fee charging upwards of $300 for the labor alone!!!!...actual stealership labor quotes received!)- my goto indepedent Acura mechanic only charged me about $60 total in labor fees to have this OEM replacement antenna installed (and the old, exposed one removed) :29:

Additionally, I couldn't find a BALI BLUE color antenna online to match my BALI BLUE MDX, so I simply painted on top of the BLACK one I got below, using spare bottles of Acura Bali Blue touch up paint and clear-coat (from eBay) that I've accumulated over the years! :surprise: *I know, this was a little bit ghetto, but the final result turned out okay, + the replacement antenna has been working like new ever since, and is NOT exposed!

I got the replacement parts (NOTE: picture below is from prices that appeared from about 2 years ago in 2017) at Curry Acura Parts website:
