Best replacement wipers blades?

13609 Views 51 Replies 32 Participants Last post by  manus1980
I am looking to upgrade my wiper blades, as I am not satisfied with the performance of the original ones.

Can anyone suggest a good brand/model? Any idea what size MDX uses?

Thanks,
Daniel (admin).

Me Too

I was noticing this morning that mine are leaving a few streaks so I too would be interested in a good wiper recommendation.

Bosch

I replaced my driver's side with Bosch - I think it is called Precision Edge (not the regular Bosch.) It is not cheap (about $16.00), but I have been very pleased with the performance.
I just put Anco winter blades on. I used 24" blades on the driver side and 20" blades on the passenger side. Haven't tried any other brands so can't compare except to Acura's which are awful. After about 6 months mine got very streaky. Same thing happened on the TL, except I complained to them when I had the first oil change and they replaced them under warranty. But about three months later they needed replacing again. Tried cleaning the blades too but it didn't matter. They also tend to leave a line on the windshield at the left and right edge of their arc. Doesn't come off easily either. Almost like some of the blade material is rubbing off and gets deposited there. I can only guess it's due to inferior qualify material. Never had this problem on any other car except Acura.

Wish I knew who makes their blades so I don't make the mistake of buying them as replacements. Anyone got any idea who makes them?
I have sold the Bosch Micro Edge blades here for the MDX, and they work quite well. About $10 each at your local NAPA auto parts store.
Anco Premium Blades are supposed to be as good as the bosch for about 1/3 of the cost. I beleive CR compared wiper blades a few years ago and came up with this conclusion.
ok i thought i was the only one who thought the wipers were horse manure....

another acura cost cutting move.....
Consumer Reports on Wiper Blades

Consumer Reports tested wiper blades last in October 2000. They rated the following blades in decending order of preference:
1) Anco Premium 31
2) Trico Exact-Fit
3) Anco Aero Advantage
4) Bosch Microedge 407

I've found their reviews to be somewhat hit-or-miss, but I hope it helps
No rain here yet . .so I really haven't had to change the blades. I had RAIN-X put on the windows which helped out tremendously. I did recently change the blades on my Accord to the Anco Aero blades and added the RAIN-X as well. The wife says it works well especially in the morning against all that heavy dew.
PolyTat- Careful with the Rain-X. I used to live in Oregon, which may be the ideal environment for testing rain products. I tried the Rain-X and, in my experience, it can cause a bad haze to develop on the windshield. You don't see it until the wipers are on, the haze follows them like a shadow. I stopped using it on the windshield, but still used it on the sides and back, then stopped all together.
PIAA is the best ones....

Yes PIAA makes wiper blades, the same ones used on the rally series cars, just don't know if there are applications that would fit the MDX.
Yeah, I saw an ad for the PIAA wipers in the last car magazine, I think I'm gonna try them. From what I could gather from the ad, they are selling for all applications. Anyone has them yet?
Sorry guys, I just checked the piaa web site and the MDX is not listed in their applications. The TL is listed. Maybe if the TL and MDX wipers are the same size? Anyone knows?
The driver side of the TL is the same as the MDX - 24", but the passenger side of the MDX is 20' while the TL is 18". Except for the length difference, they are interchangeable. (Just for the heck of it, I tried changing them last week before I went to buy winter blades for the MDX.)
I also used Rain-X with bad experience with streaking. I will never use it again on any windows.
There is another thread talking about the cure of Rain X haze. Search for RainX or Rain X.

I have not rained since I got the X so can't say much, but appreciate all the info here for a future replacement.
OT RainX

I'm surpised about your RainX experience. I've been using it for over 6 years- don't recall when I started. The only problems I've had is that I need to re-appy it!:)

Sorry it didn't work for you!:(
Take Care
Spied the PIAA blades on a group buy for $23 (20") and $26 (24") each. Don't know if that's a decent price or not -- haven't been able to locate them elsewhere online.

Sounds kinda steep, tho I haven't looked up prices for Bosch or Anco yet.

The group buy is [link deleted to avoid ordering incompatible products - see next post] (you may have to create a login name/pwd to see it).

I just got off the phone with PIAA their wiper blades don't work with the MDX.
The MDX has a push in lock tab that is not compatible

Thanks for all the responses. I will purchase one of the suggested brands and will let everyone know of their performance.
