There are some differences between the 01/02 X. The Rear wiper is the same but it does have the delay feature which is very nice. The 2002 X is MUCH more quiet on the highway, I noticed a MAJOR difference right away as my dealer is 2 miles from the highway. Also I noticed that the front suspension is MUCH tighter than the 2002 X.

Here are some more differences listed with pics

This is one difference I noticed with my laptop case on the front passenger seat as I drove off the dealer lot.

We all know about the side defuser mirrors .. these new mirrors took some getting used to because they are smaller than the 01 mirrors. ( 2 shots )

I will list more as I notice them .. I did notice the steering wheel leather is wrapped much tighter than the 01 wheel and Acura sends these little cheat sheet booklets with the 02's ( I did not get one of these with the 01 )

So which do you prefer??

BellTeck,

So, which vehicle do you prefer overall?? Your old 2001, (assuming you had no problems) or the 2002?? Is the ride and quality better improved?? I waited for the 2002.

MDXDRIVER!!

P.S. Did you get your MDX early?

Belltech,

Thanks for noting and the pics of those differences. Can you confirm that your 02 mirror is not weeping? Some says Not, others say Yes. Just curious.

MDXDriver,

Although I only have 100 miles on the new one I do prefer it over the 01. There is a big difference in the way they drive .. the 02 has a tighter feel when driving .. the front suspension is much tighter than the 01. Again the smaller mirrors took some getting used to ( this was easily noticed after dropping off the 01 that I drove all day long and then getting right into the 02 and driving for another hour. ) I learned a lesson about buying a first year model for sure. I Got the new X 1 week before I was able to call a lawyer and sue them. Contract said 90 days and I got it on day 83 and I had to scream and shout for it then !!

tdnone,

I did wash the 02 when I got home, it was not that dirty but I wanted to put a coat of Z on it before driving it around. After the 1st wash I did NOT notice any weeps from the new defuser mirrors. Im sure I will get to check it again this week as it is supposed to rain. Will keep you updated.

TECK!

P.S. - there are more pics of it under my Oil Leak thread / Problems

tdnone,
I can confirm to you that my 02' mirrors do not weep after 3 intensive washes :D

But I have the gas tank sound problem and the brake hissing sound :( Can BellTeck and other 02' owners confirm similar problems?

Congratulation!!!

Teck --

Your story by far has been the most fascinating one on this forum. Congratulations on finally being made 'whole'. Sorry you had to go through such an ordeal, but good job on the perseverance.

Hey Teck..

Congrats on your new toy.....

Thanks for the '01' /'02' comparison... Makes me feel very good
about my '02'... It is almost a week old and I still have only 139
miles on it, so I really haven't gotten to drive it too much.

Going from a Jeep GC to the X, my original thought on the mirrors
was the mirrors are so much larger....So, you were just spoiled
by the larger '01' mirrors to begin with..:D :D

I will send you a couple deer whistles, for use on your next
trip to VA.....

My friend has a 2002 which I spend a lot of time in and driving so I can directly compare it to my 2001. The difference in suspensions was dramatic UNTIL I had the thud fix performed on mine. This tightened up the suspension on my 2001 considerably and I can now detect no difference between the two.

As far as wind noise, mine might be particualrly quiet (I had the windshield seals replaced) or his particularly loud, but the difference between the two is negligible and about 1.5 Db on a sound meter. To the ear, the difference is all but undetectable.

For what it is worth, he doesn't like the smaller mirrors on his 2002 and would rather have the ones on the 2001. He thinks the smaller mirrors leave too much of a blind spot and pu the little circle parabs on them to widen the view. Personally, I can live with the smaller mirror but understand his complaint.

One interesting note: We drive the same route and he consistanly gets about 10 percent pooer fuel mileage than I do. He has 8,000 miles at this point and an oil change so breakin should not account for it. If we swap vehicles, my 2001 still gets the better mileage. (This is by actual fill up data - not the trip computer - so should be accurate.)

MDXLuvr, Thank you and I know the " mentally exhausted " all too well through this ordeal. I told the finance guy at the dealer that I NEVER want to go through something like this again and that its NOT worth the crap.

davegood, Thanks guy... perseverance, patience, diligence, understanding, and a couple Are you Crazy's were tossed my way through this thread and I just keep thinking .. what a pain in the @$$ it was LOL!! I am glad its over and that I have a beautiful brand spanking new white 2002 X with the Navi :D

VA Tech, Thanks to you too, and you should feel proud of your GG 02. It was a hard chioce between the GG and white .. I just love white cars. I am going to send my brother and his wife a couple whistles .. I would sure get them if I lived there.

mogur, Im not downing the 01.. but I love the 02 and noticed differences right away. Much more quiet on the highway than the 01, and I am used to the mirrors now and I like the stealthy look of them also. Gas mileage... I could not get any better than 19 on the 01 no matter where I was ( Not using the trip computer either ) So I will be checking the 02 after a couple thousand miles break in.

Octavian, Thanks for your kind words.. it sure was a trip .. I'll have to quote the stooges on your post .. " Let a guy who knows how to knock ..knock .. knock ..knock " ;)

And now more comparisons and differences .....
