Apple CarPlay/XM Work Around??

I know there are may threads discussing the various quirks and conditions surrounding CarPlay but, I'm wondering if anyone has found a reasonable work-around(s) to make the feature actually useable for listening to XM. I for one have not.

My issues are that seemingly arbitrarily, it either requires me to hit pause then play, select music, or, sometimes, it will actually just work. Maybe my paradigm is off here but, my expectation is to get into the car, start it, and within a reasonable time (30 seconds?) have music playing. It should just continue on whatever channel it was last on, etc. I'm trying to listen to XM via CarPlay. It simply doesn't work in a practical way. Sometimes, even closing and reopening CarPlay will not resolve things. It just displays the normal "play" screen with no sound. Very frustrating.

Any suggestions for how to make this work even reasonably well would be greatly appreciated. There is significant audio quality improvement streaming XM via CarPlay as compared to direct satellite feed as has been discussed.

I hear where you are coming from quality wise. But you're expecting a third party app (XM) to work flawlessly via a third party system (Apple CarPlay) integrated in the primary vehicle unit. It's just not going to happen. In my experience even Apple Music/Spotify work intermittently (it will restart from where it was left off one time, but not the other, and I can't for the love of me, understand the condititions that need to be met in order to have any sort of consistency there). I've given up listening to XM via Car Play and resorted to the vehicle built in XM capability.
While I dont listen to music much with XM (mostly sports), I do use Amazon music extensively via Android Auto. When I start up the car after having listened to Amazon the last time, it will, within 15-30 seconds start up where it left off....I love using Amazon music in the MDX....I have the settings set to max quality and it really does sound great. My wife and I each have our own playlists so its really quite simple....

Ya, agree that often tech isn't "ready for prime time" when implemented. At the same time, Acura sold us a vehicle that claims to have a feature called wireless CarPlay. Apple offers the feature on their mobile devices. XM is just a streaming audio source not really different from many others. So, yes, I actually do expect it to work on a useable level. If there are a few quirks and occasional glitches, I wouldn't be posting about it. From my experience, XM played through CarPlay into the Acura is not a viable feature. At the performance level I'm experiencing, they (whomever is primarily responsible) should be announcing updates to improve things. I think the ball carrier needs to be Acura. I'm guessing there are vehicles wherein CarPlay may work considerably better. That's just speculation but, it is hard to imagine the Acura implementation is typical. Nobody would use it and Apple would likely be pushing to get it corrected. It's a reflection on them as well.

I have Prime so, Amazon music is an option. I do listen to it sometimes along with Apple Music, Spotify, iHeart, and Pandora. XM has so-called xtra channels only available streamed. I really enjoy a few of them so, thus the push to try and make CarPlay work in the MDX.

I'm certain that if we check back on this issue a year from now, things will be better. At some point, it will all work nearly perfectly and we'll forget how bad it is now. But, for now, it really $uck$!!

I wouldn't bet on it. I really don't know if it's the Apple issue or Acura issue. It might very well be both.

Let's hope so!
