I know the size is a bit different. Base wheel size is 18 inch. But the tire width is 255 for Gen 2 and 245 for Gen 3? I might be able to get a good deal on a set of Gen 3 wheels and tires. So my question is whether there is any potential problems, especially safety related. Thanks a lot!

Make sure they're 2017 wheels as the bolt pattern from '14-'16 does not fit the 2nd gen's 5 x 120 mm bolt pattern.

The 245/60R18 is a 1/2" narrower and 1/4" more sidewall than the 2nd gen 18" tire. It may handle a little less crisp if you drive your big honkin SUV like Mario Cart but it's within the tolerances. You could always switch out the tires down the road if you don't like how it drives. We tossed our OEM Michelins fairly early as they were too noisy.

yeah. they are 2017 wheels. I am thinking whether i can add some 10 mm spacers to make sure the track stays the same. However, I am not sure that there will be enough stubs left for the lug nuts. Anybody tried?
