Anti-theft Discount

Have just been notified by my insurance company that I am no longer eligible for the anti-theft discount on my comprehensive coverage. Since the factory installed system is not self arming, it is user dependent. It took them a whole 13 months, but they finally caught up with my VIN.

The system does leave a lot to be desired for a luxury product.
Many competitors offer more sophisticated systems in non luxury vehicles and benefit the owners with insurance discounts.

That's unfortunate about your insurance company. It doesn't make much sense either. Isn't the ECU immobilizer "passive" since the car won't start without the right key?

My insurance gives discounts for any car with an ECU immobilizer.
Stargazer is right, argue with them. The imobilizer (chip in key function) is passive. Typical insurance, getting all they can
I support previous 2 replies. In my opinion ins. co-s often just paying around in a try to squeeze more money, just do not give up. Call and mention follows:
1. it is self-arming as long as you lock doors from outside(technically it's 2 different procedures - locking doors and turning alarm which takes 15 seconds) and this is stated in the manual, so you can fax them pages from the manual if they say they can't get this info from vin;
2. if they still say it's not 'self-arming', which they probably may, since if you forgot to lock the car alarm is not set either, - mention about immobilizer;
3. it has anti-theft on audio that sets itself if battery is disconnected and you need a key to get it working again.

Try another company if yours doesn't want to reconsider, - it gives you another 13 mos at least :D .
Any info on insurance discount on Lojack?

Interesting reading...
My insurance company doesn't seem to care whether its passive or active arming system.

However, I could not get a straight answer regarding Lojack and other theft recovery system. Does anyone know which insurance companies are discounting if Lojack is installed? And what is the % discount?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

State Farm gives no discount for LoJack or TeleTrak.

Mogur - maybe they don't in CA, but I was advised that I would get an additional discount with State Farm if I had LoJack (which I don't). Maybe it varies by agent?? I still get a discount for theft protection - just not as much as if I had LoJack.

After my ins. company(AIG) discovered that I do not have a LoJack(somehow initially they decided that I had it) they decreased the anti-theft discount by 5%. BTW, that's almost exactly what they add for windows glass etching to 20% I have. It shows that in that phrase about "up to 25%" discount on your ins. first 2 words are the key ones. Perhaps, getting the system is not only about a discount on ins., but more about "peace of mind".
