This is the first annoying thing I have experienced since buying this car. Only started this morning as I was driving the kids to school. When on idle there is a loud plastic rattling noise. My son determined it was coming from the dash and upon closer inspection was that ambient light sensor piece (i only know what it is called because skirmich pointed it out in another thread). If i press down on the sensor the rattling stops. It could be the sensor or something underneath but it is plastic and it sounds like a bunch of frozen peas on a vibrating surface. Stopping at lights or at stop signs was annoying and if it werent for the fact that i am a law abiding citizen i would have ran a light or two due to the annoyance. Yes. Minor issue in the scheme of things but anyone seen this before and how to fix?

Can you remove the sensor by hand? the sensor is spring loaded into the dashboard and you can pop it off with a small flat screwdriver.

Given my propensity to break things i try to maintain in this car, i need to ask a few questions: 1. Any chance by me popping it out will any wires get damaged etc? 2. After i pop it out what would i do then? 3. How is it reinstalled? Just snap back in? I really don't know my way around these things

It almost feels like that entire front skinny panel can come out - there is a bit of play on it

I am thinking if it is spring loaded maybe the spring isnt providing enough pressure against the sensor so it bounces around in the area. If that is the case not sure how to fix aside from trying to make the spring come up more by pulling on it but even then it seems like a tight fit. Or maybs i can put some cement in there or something
