Among the most debated topics regarding the '22 MDX is whether Acura should have supplied a touch screen instead of the True Touch Interphase or TTIP. Some have actually asked for both. Ironically, Acura actually makes a touch screen available except they don't advertise it as such. This touchscreen feature is accessible if you download the Cabin Control app from either the Apple Store or Google.

With Cabin Control installed on your phone and linked to the car through your vehicle's Wi-Fi, your cell phone acts as a touch screen and with the exception of one or two features, you or your passengers (with your permission) can run almost every infotainment feature in the MDX: navigation, audio (radio, USB, Bluetooth etc.), CarPlay, Android Auto and even the rear climate controls, a feature which is not available from the TTIP. Everything you do on your phone is replicated on the infotainment screen. In short, you can control the infotainment screen from your phone by touch without ever having to interact with the TTIP pad!

Acura doesn't advertise this feature I suspect, because, then, the question would be why not simply replace TTIP with this. And for whatever reason, they want to be the TTIP brand. I personally have no problems with TTIP, but for those of you who want a touch screen, Cabin Control is your answer. Acura may choose to go "touch" one of these days, but until they do, just download that app!

I was using this app a week after I got my ‘22 Advance but i found it a bit buggy whenever it tries to connect. The app function was nice for my passengers to used by just that connectibity issues kinda annoyed me.

Have an rdx so no cabin control.

Wonder if someone would try velcroing a cheap android tablet in front of the nontouch screen, can probably build or make an app that detects the car startup via bluetooth and launch cabin control upon car startup.

Considering the effort people take for grom, etc on the pre 2018 mdx, something like above is way easier and a good opportunity for an aftermarket "sleeve" that actually looks good.

Anyone know if ttip's communication to the ecu is unencrypted? Seems like aftermarket could build a harness that intercepts ttip wiring and sends toucscreen-sleeve responses direct to the ecu so it thinks it came from ttip. Similar to the autostop/drivemode override harnesses.

Would be a feature easily worth over $1k to drivers. Hope some astute engineer considers an indiegogo for something like this.

I paid $1k to put Android Auto in my 20-yr-old RSX.

I think a properly sized aftermarket touchscreen can be a couple hundred and parts for a harness and well-sized leather cover-sleeve is probably a hundred more. Maybe $300 for parts, $100 labor for harness install, and $200 for software and distribution.

So maybe $600 would be feasible. People spend $2k on rims, and I know tons of people who would value the touchscreen more than rims on a $50k-$70k car.

Maybe your right, but I could not see spending a nickel on such a thing.....If the touchscreen was that important(which it is not to me) I would simply buy a different car. Then again, I would never spend money on rims either.

I’d rather take my anger out on the touch pad than hit the screen when it doesn’t do what I want.
Besides , I’ve gotten use to using the touchpad that it’s no problem for most instances .

So I got curious and check the system. I don't see any hardware for touchscreen, the touch input is for the touchpad.

To Acura Now, the OP, thx for the advice. I will give Cabin Control a whirl for the helluva it. As Ole Fashioned guy, but still appreciative of Geeky "stuff, and getting more comfortable with TTIP, I still yearn for either Touchscreen or better yet, Both. Having said that, I am also Playing with The Shortcuts icon on the Home Screen. I had forgotten that feature and that helps to bring your regular "stuff" to the forefront to select more readily.

Its funny to me how many people are offended by the option of “both”. It’s like some sort of religious battle. To me (and sounds like you) it just seems like the obvious and easiest solution. Best part about both is you just use whatever is convenient when you need something. My avionics are “both”. It’s better than pure knobs and buttons or pure touchscreen because of it.

Not offended by the thought of having both at all....but, one of things I really like about the current configuration of the dash is the placement of the screen. In order to have a touchscreen, the display would need to placed closer to the driver so as to be within easy reach.

This is actually great to know. So often I have my wife program in destinations, etc. I felt like the touch pad, being so close to the driver, would probably prohibit her from doing this now. This allows her to still play navigator while I drive.

Yes but the screen is properly placed further in the dashboard (aligned with line of sight) and therefore too far to reach from comfortable driving position - a smart decision on Acura's part.

I laugh when people complain about touch screen.
