Is anyone selling an Acura Ski Rack for $50? I saw this for sale on this website but now I can't find it. Please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks.

Spend $100 and get a Barrecrafters or something else; even the Acura dealers will tell you the Acura rack is junk... my $.02

I disagree ... we have one and it works fine AND it says Acura on it!!! Haven't seen for $50 though .... try Tim.
Works, but not ideal

I have the Acura ski rack - mainly because it sounded like companies like Thule and Yakima did not have adpaters to work on the wide rails of the Touring roof rack.

The Yakima I had on our previous cost about half as much and was much better.

Problems/challenges with the Acura rack versus my old yakima:

1. Acura rack is taller
2. Cannot open and close without using the key every time.
3. Key is tough to work.
4. Acura does not lock on the roof like yakima.
5. Acura more restricted in thickness of skis

If yakima would just make the adapter, I would take tha Acura rack off.

Thule Adapter

Thule does make an adapter for the X, even though customer service at Thule doesn't know it but you can buy an FM-1 (Fat Mouth Clams), it should fit perfectly on the X. I have it on mine with the 725 ski/snowboard rack.
You can also go to the accessories forum to see the pictures

You can mount Thule 725 with its existing hardware+4 washers. Just slide the bolt to the center channel of the factory rack.
Ski Rack

Go with the Barrecrafters - it holds more skis, is easy to remove or install and costs much less than the Acura rack. See this thread:

There is also a pix of my MDX with the Barrecrafters rack in this thread. You can also search "ski rack", as there have been several threads on the subject.
Yakima Ski Rack Adapters

FYI, for those with Yakima gear, the Mighty Mount 29V (for ski racks and other "vertical" mounting gear, the "H" for bike racks, etc) and 29H work fine. I have had my ski racks on the entire season ;no problems at all. Yakima and the retailer would prefer you ante up another $300 plus, but the $21.00 dollar Mighty Mounts do the trick! Don't let them tell you "it is not listed for the MDX, therefore it does not exist", they work! They just wrap around the exising OE Acura rack. You can add rubber or foam to get a more custom look. You can purchase on line or REI. The Yak ski rack has a slightly lower profile than the Acura ski rack.

Mikey- Exactly right!

Why folks are insisting on clamps is a mystery to me.

I assume everyone knows that Thule makes the Acura rack.

The Thule 726 is a 6 pr at $89 from REI last I checked. (Plus using the bolts like mikey mentioned will prevent someone from unbolting the clamps and taking you skis.)

Do a search- plenty of old posts and even some pics of mounting hardware.

BUT, don't ask the manufacturers- they are (still) clueless...

Bought a Mohn

I was able to buy a new 3-pair Mohn rack for $64, including shipping. I'll let you all know how it fits. The manufacturer swears that it will fit perfectly?

BTW, how do I change my profile -- I have had my MDX for 7 months.
I believe it it the "user cp" button on the top of the page. Then 'edit profile' or something like that. (CP is control panel?)

If the Mohn will mount on a vertical threaded bolt, the integrated channel in the factory rack is designed for a bolt. Report back what solution you use so others can have a few more choices.

Ard
For $54 (+$10 shipping, no tax) the Mohn is a great option. It mounts to the factory cross bars without a problem. Go to geardirect.com if you want one.

Where exactly do you slide the bolt in the existing rack? Any picture would be greatly appreciates.

Acura ski racks

Loose Cannon---I bought them! Mike
I bought Barrecrafts holding 6 ski sets for $80 from Internet. It 's the best price I can find on Internet. Have it put on my MDX 3-weeks ago. It fits perfectly.
Acura3 is correct, the Yakima Mighy Mount 29V will work to adapt the Yakima Ski Rack to fit on the MDX. I just did it yesterday. The kit is made for the Nissan Pathfinder and Yakima does not claim that it fits the MDX (I called them). The fit is a little loose, so a little rubber or foam will be needed for a tighter fit.

The kit can be purchased at REI, Sports Rack (SF Bay Area) or any retailer that carrys Yakima, for only $21.
