service bulletin issued for these plugs that fall out and stink up the cabin.
my dealer guy said he's heard it maybe 3x. bulletin number 14-032 dated 8/27/14. Now if I could only find the darn thing online to print. They gave me the can't reproduce and that's normal baloney too.

is this problem unique to MDX 2010+? I have a 2007, and I tried very hard to look for these two body plugs w/o success. Anybody can give a more detailed guidance on how to find them? TIA.

There are to body plugs at the back of the vehicle one on driver side and one on passenger side.

They seem to be falling out, which allows exhaust to enter the cabin when the AC System is in "Recirc"

Mine is a 2010 MDX

Below are some links to the Parts and Diagrams and two Youtube video's to illustrate.

yep its the rear plugs. entire rear bumper has to come off. dealers dummy up on issue until you bring them docs, 1.5 years later its coming back. I think they fell or are falling out again. when close my door I can hear a hissing sound for 3 or 4 seconds leading me to believe air is getting forced back out the failed install

Parts ordered. Thanks for this find, itjbmcp. Anyone lined the grommets with silicone or anything to prevent them from falling out again? Also, is there a rear bumper removal DIY kicking around? I have to do this plus a rear reflector.

i wouldn't accept that b.s. Excuse. I've had my mdx since 2009 and i've never experienced bad gasoline smell entering the vehicle accept when in high traffic and with other vehicle exhaust issues. It's absolutely unacceptable excuse especially trying different gasoline brands. You paid good money for a vehicle and this is the suggestion from acura. Where the guys at the dealership sniffing gasoline and high as kites when they inspected your vehicle?????:28:

I used silicone, still in place after 3 years...

Can the plugs be inspected/confirmed to exist without removing the bumper? Not really sure what or where to look. I occasionally get some smell inside with hard acceleration so thought I'd take a peak. With windows down/sunroof open, the smell gets sucked in pretty much anytime rpms go over 3,500 when pulling a hill or accelerating hard. I don't think that should be happening either.

2 Grommets - 1 part number or 2?

I bought 2011 X about a year and a half ago off lease with 45,000 kms and now have close to 70k kms on it and have noticed the smell from day one only on hard acceleration and does not matter what the climate controls are set too..
Acura's and Honda's in general (especially V-tech or performance models) have a burn off of oil with sudden rpm increase or hard acceleration. You will notice a light blue smoke for a couple seconds behind any one that hammers the gas. This is NORMAL as well as common knowledge....Drove a TL for 14 years....

[The issue here is that it is entering the cabin of the vehicle]

Reading the previous posts I can confirm a fairly large hole in either side of rear of the vehicle going into the car by the sides of the bumper. Just go underneath a stick your hand up in along the wall of the bumper and you will feel it - you will also notice some soot or dirt on the fuse panel as it is making its way up in there while your drive .

The holes do not feel like they are the exact same shape to me -

There is a part number posted in the previous posts - is it that part number times 2 or is there another part # for the right side of the car?

And yes taking the bumper off would be the best way to fix this.....

If you cant get your hands on the grommets I'm sure cleaning with alcohol and some aluminum furnace ducting tape would work very well.....

Are both right and left grommets the same part # ?
