I swapped out my fuse box where the MICU (due to a faulty door lock relay) is located and I'm now immobilized. I understand there is a procedure to start the vehicle with a regular mechanical key (non-transponder) and my VIN specific brake code. The procedure that I've seen refers to pressing on the brake pedal. Is it the parking brake pedal or the regular brake pedal that I'm supposed to be pressing? I can't seem to get it going either way. Anyone know or have a PDF of the procedure for a 2011 MDX? Thx!

n/m worked using the parking brake pedal. and contrary to the write-up that I'd read, the immobilizer key dash light didn't flash 5 times after entering my code.

Here's the procedure:
Emergency Engine Start Procedure for Acura and Honda

A non transponder key with the correct mechanical cuts that will work the ignition lock cylinder will be need. You can get them at your local locksmith for a very low price if you ask them to duplicated your transponder key into a regular one(mechanical key).

Acura

Models: CL, TL, INTEGRA & MDX (Use the Brake Pedal)
Models: 3.5 RL, NSX, RSX & TSX (Use the Hand Brake)

Honda

Models: Accord, CR-V, Insight, Odyssey and S2000 (Use the Brake Pedal)
Models: Civic and Prelude (Use the Hand Brake)

  • You will need a mechanical key that work the ignition lock cylinder.
  • Get the "Immobilizer Brake Code" from the Honda Acura dealer; you would have to go to the dealer and show them proof of ownership of the vehicle, thus to very strict policy they will not give any information over the phone. The "Immobilizer Brake Code" is a five digit number. Each car has a different "Immobilizer Brake Code" since they are V.I.N(Vehicle Identification Number) specific.
  • Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (II).
  • Have the BRAKE CODE in front of you. To enter the first number of the BRAKE CODE, press and release the brake the same number of times as the first number in the BRAKE CODE. For example if the first number in the BRAKE CODE is a 2, press and release the brake 2 times.
  • Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  • Within 30 seconds, turn the ignition switch to the ON position (II). For example if the 2nd number in the BRAKE CODE is a 3, press and release the brake 3 times.
  • Continue entering the BRAKE CODE as described above for the rest 3rd, 4th and 5th digits.
After entering the 5th number, the immobilizer indicator light on the dash should flash 5 times and then shut off. The car should now start. This procedure must be repeated each time you turn off the car for more than 10 minutes. The Immobilizer System indicator will remain on while the engine is running.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you find your keys or drive home to get them, they cannot be use until the vehicle has been turned off for more than 10 minutes.
