2002 Changes

I received the Winter 2002 edition of "Acura Style" yesterday, and it had some details regarding the changes made to the 2002 MDX. While I've read a few comments here and there about the changes, I've never seen this level of detail, so I thought I'd share it with everyone. This is from the section "Insider's Guide" on page 59:

2002 MDX

The most visible changes are the three new color choices-- Taffeta White with Saddle interior, Redrock Pearl with Saddle interior, and Havasu Blue (metallic) with Ebony interior.

The steering system has been fine-tuned to increase road feel for even more car-like responsiveness.

The outboard seats in the second row have been equipped with the new and innovative LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system for attaching child safety seats to ready-to-use tethers at the top and bottom of the seats.

The rear window now features an intermittent window wiper/washer system. The front wiper/washer system benefits from a higher-pressure pump for improved winshield cleaning.

Added protection against parking-lot door dings is available through optional body side-molding trim.

A variety of enhacements have been made to produce a quieter, more comfortable ride. These include thicker windshield glass, and acoustic roof lining material from front to rear. A layer of Thinsulate (TM) insulation has also been added to key areas of the interior, including inside the door panels.

Diffuser-style exterior door mirrors have been added to smoothly channel airflow past the side windows to reduce wind noise.

The front cross bar of the roof rack has been repositioned more to the rear to further reduce wind noise and improve aerodynamics.

Excellent summary. Thank you for doing this. :)
Has anyone seen what the Acura 'optional body side-molding trim' looks like - installed? All the pictures of the 2002 MDX's I've seen so far are still without the trim.
When I initially test drove the 2001 I didn't like the steering response and thought it was due to over inflated tires.
When I got the 2002, I noticed that the steering was more responsive and predictable. I'm glad I waited/procrastinated.

tflora,

Check out Moo's post on the BSM in the accessories forum. There are pictures and installation tips. "optional" means that you pay extra to buy them and even more if you have the dealer install them. Note that this accessory is not exclusive to the 2002 model, many folks with 2001s have them too. If you really wanted to, you can buy multiple sets. You can even be bold and buy different colors.
Do a search for BSM

Do a search for BSM for body side moulding pictures.

I have them installed and they have already saved me a few times I think.

My dealer wanted $300 installed -- got them from Tim at www.hondacuraworld.com

His price is now $110,shipped. Takes 15 minutes to install them.

Sorry for my ignorance, but where do you get this magazine? Is it something only for dealers? Or is it sent to all Acura owners? Just curious.
dmyles,

Not sure, but I just received it as well--so, you get it either if you buy an Acura or if you if you sign up for owner's link on the acura website.

Thanks Rob...I'll try the owner's link.

Thanks for the support rogmandude....Rough year for all us Tarheels. :( But I'm keeping the faith!!
I'm also not sure how I got on the list to receive "Acura Style". I did register with the owner's site as well, so maybe that's where it starts. Prior to my MDX, I had an 94 Acura Integra and started receiving some Acura magazine for a time, but I think it had stopped coming. I was somewhat surprised to get this issue, since I just got my MDX Dec 31, 2001.
The difference is due to the higher torque now specified for the rear bushing to help eliminate the Thud problem. Any one with a 2001 that wants this new "feature" in the 2002 (I love marketing) need only have the first item on the Thud TSB done.
