i thought it was hazy too. it's better than my 15 Golf R but that could be due to the low res screen i have in that car.
I have a 16 R and must say that I like R's resolution better then MDX's. You can improve it by playing with the settings. This is what I did:
1- System Settings
2- Display
3- Brightness set to +11
4- Contrast set to +5
5- Black level set to -5

While it's not perfect but it is much better than what the default settings were.

My bm backup camera is HD, I think that's the difference. Both screens in my MDX are low resolution (vga), I think that's the real problem.
I would think the camera is also the limitation. I've done the brightness to 11, but will try the other suggestions later. The camera is also useless if its rains, whereas with the TL the water just comes off of it and doesn't actually block the view. Might try to see if applying rainx or something would help.

Camera is part of the limitation too, you're right on that.:29:

Ok something odd happened today. I backed out of my parking spot and the camera looked great - clear with contrasting colors. Then it did some sort of auto-adjustment and it became all hazy and desaturated looking again.

So at least part of the problem is due to image adjusting software in the computer.

I noticed it as well... the image did not become "too bad" per say, but it auto-adjusted for the outside brightness and became noticeably darker as soon as I started the car and begun to back out of the parking lot, so circumstances are very similar to yours...

I've noticed a similar phenomenon so you're not hallucinating. Sometimes the image is strikingly sharp for a couple of seconds and then it becomes noticeably less so - as if the software or light sensor made a delayed adjustment to the image but where the image became worse rather than better.

+1 just noticed it tonight backing up. Starts off good then contrast goes out the window.

I just bought a 2016 MDX, Tech and AWP model. The back up camera seems blurry to me. It looks as if someone left some protective film on it when it was shipped. I've checked and cleaned the camera. I've got three other vehicles with back up cameras. None of them are as blurry as this.

Is anyone else having this issue? We've only had it two weeks, so it hasn't been back to the dealer yet. Everything else is working well.

EDIT....Okay, I know better and should have done a search. Apparently, the blurry camera is an issue. So my next question....has anyone had any luck with a repair. When I first searched here for issues before my purchase, the camera thing never popped up.
No luck with repair. "If others have it, it's normal" according to service manager and Mike Bogan, manager, at Acura Client Relations.

So "live with it" is the answer.

Not intended as a defense, but I suspect it is "normal" from Acura's perspective.

The image quality on my 2010 TL was much higher than my 2012 MDX, and neither of them were as good as my wife's 2014 Odyssey.

I think, for some reason, Acura decided to economize on this particular component in the MDX. Gotta hit the price points somehow...

If people are seeing even one second of clear picture, it indicates the camera is not the issue.
It really means the issue is not the basic camera optics and not the display - but rather, some processing that takes place or maybe even something like a light/focal sensor and electronics for the camera impacting the image. It'd be nice to know what's causing this 'adjustment' in the image.

I also notice the camera image changes when the system attempts to adjust something......it goes from clear to hazy....this also happens on the top display and I gave to lower the black level to fix it every so often.

I have a 2014, and am bothered by the low-quality backup camera. However, it serves its purpose, so I can't complain too loudly.

Our other car is a 2014 Toyota Highlander, and its camera is noticeably brighter & has more contrast than the one in the MDX, which makes me wnder why the more expensive car has the crappier camera.

i was just asking myself this today... we just got our 2016 MDX not even a week ago and since the wife drives it, i didnt notice it until today when I drove it. We traded in a 2013 Pilot for the 2016 MDX and the camera on the Pilot was a lot clearer than the MDX, which kind of surprised me... makes me wonder if i can just buy the camera from another acura or honda vehicle and swap it out myself since Acura claims this to be normal?
