I just bought a 2016 MDX, Tech and AWP model. The back up camera seems blurry to me. It looks as if someone left some protective film on it when it was shipped. I've checked and cleaned the camera. I've got three other vehicles with back up cameras. None of them are as blurry as this.

Is anyone else having this issue? We've only had it two weeks, so it hasn't been back to the dealer yet. Everything else is working well.

EDIT....Okay, I know better and should have done a search. Apparently, the blurry camera is an issue. So my next question....has anyone had any luck with a repair. When I first searched here for issues before my purchase, the camera thing never popped up.

There are multiple threads here where it has been complained about. A simple search for "backup camera" will bring them up. Here's a few to read:

Also, are you in Canada? There was at least one owner that said their Canadian backup camera seems to be better.

Oh and here's one from an Edmund's Senior Editor: http://www.edmunds.com/acura/mdx/2014/long-term-road-test/2014-acura-mdx-hazy-display.html

Personally, I think we should make a ruckus.

I recommend that everyone write a gentle email to acura client relations and raise these concerns. They won't do anything for us current users, but at least it can help future owners if they get enough emailed concerns.

My memory must be going. I go onto different threads and it seems I'm reading the same posts. Oh well.

How can anyone not see this supposed issue and leave the dealer or at least not call them within the same 24hr period??? Buy car and post a "help me" thread on an internet forum???

This is not a "help me" thread. OP simply stated his observations about the screen and people replied back with theirs.

The screen "issue" is not a deal breaker for most people, rather a point to make on how a 50k+ luxury car has such a low-res cheap screen while the 29-30k "lower brand" products from the same company have wonderful hi-res screens.

It's the wife's car and she didn't even notice the issue. Her RX350 had a really clear screen, my Chevrolet Silverado has a great screen and so does my motor home. One poster, in another thread, said he thought the in dash display was not very clear. Mine is very clear, it's just that camera. Cameras are soooo cheap now days, it surprises me that they used such a crummy one. I will bring it up to the dealer and see what they say. I'll report back.

So far, the camera and no spare are my only real issues. The spare has been resolved with the spare tire kit and a new spare off of a 2015 RAV4 from a wrecking yard.

What do you mean no spare? The spare tire should be under the car. Do you not have one?

Took the car to the dealer and got the expected answer.....that's the way the cameras look.

"NOOB".....I'm sorry I missed one thing out of 300 more important issues. In bright daylight it's not something you notice during a test drive. Next time I'll know to drive backwards for 10 minutes and make sure everything is perfect in reverse!!!

^^ Did you personally compare the backup camera image in another 2016 to yours to confirm? I wouldn't just trust any dealer person who proclaims "it's normal".

Given that, if the backup camera image is the same as in my 2014 MDX it's certainly not the highest resolution and is a noticeable step down in resolution compared to a number of other backup camera systems, including those in some other Acura models, even older models. Regardless of the lack of resolution, I find that it performs the task - I can use it okay when parking, etc.

When I first got my 2016 MDX (almost 2 months ago) and saw the backup camera, the not-so-sharp look caught my attention. I told this to my dealer and asked to see it in another 2016 MDX. It was the same. The MDX camera system is certainly worse than the other brands, I've had/have. As it is still usable and does not affect the intended purpose, I did not do anything but I wish it was clearer.
