  1. Correct brake pads for rear 2002 MDX

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
Thanks guys! FWIW, my local Honda dealer gets me the Acura parts and gives me a discount. We're known there because of our S2000 and Type R. So I'm good with getting the factory part.
  2. Correct brake pads for rear 2002 MDX

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
The sites seem to list two different sets, but nothing seems to distinguish them: 43022-S3V-A02 43022-S3V-A03 Anyone know the difference...
  3. Help! Should we keep the car going?!

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
New update. Everything is great. This included multiple drives up and down a very steep and long freeway grade near us, in 100* temp with the AC going. No issues at all. It sure seems like the dealer lied or is incompetent - or both.

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
I have a separate thread on this board about it. I did a leakdown test and did not find anything. So I decided to replace the radiator first and then do a CO2 test. It cost me about $500 in parts (all hoses, thermostat, temp sender, Honda radiator fluid) and now everything is running fine...
  5. Help! Should we keep the car going?!

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
Update. I put in the new radiator, hoses, thermostat and fan switch. Runs fine and cool. No issues noted. So I borrowed one of those blue fluid testers that is supposed to turn yellow if there is CO2 in the radiator. It stays blue. Note, I'm told this tester requires the engine to be run...
  6. Help! Should we keep the car going?!

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
Thanks! FWIW, spark plugs are dry as can be. Oil cap, normal. Oil dipstick, normal. I'm hoping, but not holding by breath. Thanks for the reference to the scope. I've been wanting one for a while, but the prices are always above that "just because" threshold. But I can't argue with this...
  7. Help! Should we keep the car going?!

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
New update. We did a leak down test. It shows no leak, and pretty even across the board. My first thought was that the dealer was BS'ing me to get the work. And if I agreed, I'd never know if it had a bad head gasket. A local Honda independent said that the chemical test that the dealer...
  8. Help! Should we keep the car going?!

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
Small update. I got the car back from the dealer yesterday. I haven't ordered any parts yet. I'm going to wait until I see the condition of the heads and cylinder sleeves. I did buy the special Lysle impact wrench socket for the crank pulley. it was crazy to watch two videos where they...
  9. Anyone actually experience negative issues from K&N engine air filter?

    General Discussions
+1 for everything above. I have had K&N on various cars and have found exactly that. Moreover, I know myself. I'm 5x more likely to buy a new dry filter and swap it than I am to deal with the hassle of cleaning them. So I don't run K&N on any of my cars now.
  10. Help! Should we keep the car going?!

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
Thanks for the reply and all the work to make the list of the parts. I've rebuilt more than one 60's engine, and changed headgaskets on my Alpine many times (because the steel block and aluminum head used to not get along - doesn't happen anymore since I got a new head). So I'm not afraid to...
  11. Help! Should we keep the car going?!

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
2002 MDX. Original owner. The car has been great, and well loved. It has always been maintained by the dealer, and fixed whenever needed. The only major work since new was a tranny replacement and AC needed work. But then this weekend, the temp gauge started climbing, steam out of engine...
  12. Who has the most miles?

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
2002 Original owner, 250,000 miles. Dealer maintained. Has been perfect, except one tranny replacement and a bunch of AC work. HOWEVER, this last week, it blew a head gasket which popped the radiator. $4,000 quote to fix - without rebuilding heads. Struggling if we should do it.
  13. Owner said without older MDX

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
We have a 2002 with 250,000 and still going beautifully. One seat seam stitching has come out. Otherwise, the interior looks well below 100k. I remember cars from the 60s and 70s that looked FAR worse at 60k than the MDX at 250,000. And don't even discuss one of those cars going over 100k...
  14. 2016 Pulsation at Highway Speed Braking

    Third Generation MDX (2014-Present)
Our 2012 MDX has never had this problem (now with 250,000 miles and still going strong - it's just so dang irreplaceable). However, our '87 Prelude did - when new, it was constantly warping rotors. At that time, we were told that it was because my wife was TOO gentle on the brakes. Their...
  15. How Long Does the MDX last?

    First Generation MDX (2001-2006)
If anything, this car has been OVER serviced! My wife diligently takes it to a local independent Honda service place every time they call. She does tend to park on our slanted driveway by stopping, putting it in park and THEN putting on the parking brake. I tell her constantly that she...
