'08 Formal Black MDX Painted Bumpers

Here is a pic of my formal black with the front rear bumper insert painted to match. It was done by a pro shop for 3 days. Result was fantastic. Color match & crafstmanship was phenomenal. Cost $500 for front & rear + installation of garnishes (including pick-up & delivery).

Quick run down.
1. Bumpers removed. Inserts removed.
2. Light sanding
3. Soap & water
4. 4 coats primer (sanding in between coats)
5. 4 base coats
6. 4 coats of clear
7. Light buff.

I have to hand it to you, that looks absolutely terrific. While I'm still not entirely sold on painted bumpers for the lighter colors, there's no doubt in my mind that they're perfectly suited for Formal Black. Not only that, but even the garnish looks fantastic (and remember, I'm opposed to "garnish" on an SUV on principle).

Nope, your Sport/Ent looks just about perfect to these eyes. Nice job, LS!

Adam

I never liked the garnish thing but with painted bumpers on formal black its looks great. The whole package is one of nicest MDX I've seen on this site.

WOW! Really nice. I am convinced that the darker colors work much beter on the MDX. This from a silver MDX owner.

Looks great LS and you sure do have the camera skills down pat.

Time to add the body side mouldings before those doors get dinged.

Something tells me the 09 MDX's may carry the painted bumpers because they look so cool.

I just hope the paint lasts as long as the factory pain...cuz in my experience the aftermarket paint tends to fade over time compared to the factory paint

but other then that...it looks awesome

First thank you all for your comments.

Second, JSing80, I understand your concern. The ultimate answer is WHERE you have the paint done. My buddy pro shop (over 20yrs in business) specialize on antique/classic car restoration. Their paint finish (trust me on this) can outlast any Fatory paint. It has proven on my Accord 2000 with the mini accident on bumper. They replaced the bumper for me & matched the Signet Silver color nicely (99.99% match). To this day (6 years later from that paint job), the paint is still perfect. Articulate as I am, even now on my 8yr old Accord, I still can't find a FLAW in their work.
