Friday I went to a friends bbq. Saturday my family grilled at the house and I popped off some leftover fireworks. I went to the Taste of Chicago on Sunday and stopped by Chinatown for dinner. Good times.

Nothing like construction season. Anyone seen any speed camera vans?

From all the hoopla and the threats IIRC they took down the news release and just are back to a few, but to answer nope haven't seen any.

Someone told me that they seen one on 355 South by 75th a few days ago.

This is a really cool video on them.

I saw a speed camera van today on 294 south by the toll plaza near Irving Park Rd/Ohare. I was in the far left lane(single express lane due to construction) and the camera van was on the right in between the open road tolling and manual booths.

You guys better drive around with masks on ...since he said that your D.L. pic and the pic from the camera have to be the same to issue the ticket...lol

But seriously it's a good thing ..that's people's lives at risk out there. I think working on the highway is scarry because I witness a lot of stupid drivers out there ....best thing to do is just slow it down

Yea, there has been quite a number of construction workers that have been killed over the years. During night construction state troopers would park before the construction area with there lights on to make sure people slowed down. Chicago drivers are crazy.

Hey midnightMDX and everyone else in the Chicagoland area,

1.) Can you recommend any high quality/integrity/qualified auto specialists in the Chicago-land area who can install Fog Lamps on my MDX? I'm relatively new to the area- so I don't really know which shops actually do good work and which one's are just out to make or are simply incompetent?...are there any out there that you'd highly recommend or trust to work on your MDX?

2.) Also, is there any easy way to tell what a 'speed van' looks like~ this stuff is kinda scaring me- I coworker of mine recently got a caught speeding by one of the parked, unmanned speed vans, for going a mere '6 over'(!) and then received a $370 ticket in his mailbox exactly 2 days later!!!

Thanks in advance!!

1. What kind of fogs lights? Fog lights are a fairly easy install. There are so many accessory shops. Its been awhile since I've been to any, so I cant comment on the current ones. I've used HAAS Inc. in the past for Honda/Acura work, I know they use to do a few custom mods for some customers.

2. They cant be unmanned. They must have a trooper inside when in use.

Vans look like this. The speed on the top is a "warning speed", you may have time to brake before it clocks the actual speed.

Any Chicagoans got plans for the Labor Day Weekend?

Thanks for the reply midnightMDX!

I bought an HID fog light kit a while back (from a website/company that KingMDX had advised upon...). I had inquired with HAAS Inc. in the past and they had informed me that they don't install the 'HID' lights/kits, but they would install stock or aftermarket bulb replacements...(just not the HID type).

I do however look forward to going to HAAS Inc. in the future to get some other random service done...have heard good stuff about their shop thus far.

Please let still let me know when/if you can upon whether you can recommend any shops and/or even any friends/acquaintances (around Chicago/suburbs) who would be qualified to install an HID fog light kit (with ballasts) on my 2nd Gen. MDX. I'm fairly sure that to install these that either my front wheels and/or front bumper may have to be removed as part of the install process...

Thanks in advance!!

Hey KINGMDX, come to chicago and install Mavericks HID kit. For a fee, of course.

KingMDXs instructions are well documented. You could try it out. It seems like a pretty simple install, if you take your time. If not, I feel up to the task.

Thanks again midnightMDX!

I might take you up on the offer~ I honestly feel alot more comfortable compensating a member on this board as opposed to any of various shops within Chicagoland that I've called thus far- at least I'd get a better chance to learn how to do stuff like this...

btw~ I live downtown in a condo building and don't have my own personal garage- just a garage in the bldg. (not too sure at this point if car maintenance is permitted in the garage- condo board is particularly anal at my bldg. ).

I'll be out of town for the next 2 weeks but will definitely attempt to contact ya to see if you're up to the task...thanks again!

ttyl
