so I went to TireRack.com ordered the OEM tires that came with the MDX Sport and got them delivered the "next" day.....
Ever wonder how the Tire Rack can deliver tires the next day to 80 percent of the country, even when the orders are only placed with UPS ground shipping? Here's how they do it.
First, they have warehouses in five states (IN, NV, CT, LA, GA). You'll note how they're located next to, but not within, the states with the biggest populations, like CA, NY, IL, TX, and FL; that's so that they don't have to charge sales tax to customers in those states.
Instead of having UPS trucks picking up a large quantity of tires at their warehouses the way most companies operate, the Tire Rack has its own fleet of trucks. Every day they load and send those trucks to every major city in the country, and they deliver the tires to the local UPS distribution center, where UPS loads their trucks that deliver to individual customers. So if you live in San Francisco, or in Des Moines, or in Raleigh, the Tire Rack's own truck unloads your order at your local UPS facility. And they do it in time for your tires to make it onto the truck that comes to your neighborhood the next day.
yes had TR ship to my house, brought them to local tire shop waiting and watched them install and balance
Incidentally, as another option, you can have your tires delivered to your local tire shop. The Tire Rack's website makes this particularly easy if your tire installer is one of their thousands of recommended installers.
Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with the Tire Rack, but I think the way their systems deliver tires the next day, without charging for overnight shipping, is very cool.
