I've seen some really cool photos online of MDX's lowered. I'd like to take mine down two inch's but I'm not sure where to start. Has anyone done it and if so, what all does it entail? Is it as simple as putting shorter springs in?
Will this have any effect on its performance in the snow?
I've been searching for over 2 months now for a way to lower my 2012 X and have not found any products of lowering it. Would appreciate if anybody cam chime in
Here is what I recall, from 2nd gen MDX efforts and if I am wrong, please correct me:
A few 2nd gen mdxers have tried H&R Odyssey #51815 springs and found that one end of the coil spring will fit and the other end is a little small, in the front. On the rear, the user did not say that there was a fitment issue, so I guess that there wasn't. They are ok with the result.
Others used older H&R Odyssey #51810 springs, on their 2nd gen MDX (it may have been on a 1st gen MDX, i'm not sure/can't remember) and had to modify the top perch (on the rear) of their MDX, because one end of the H&R spring was too big. On the front, the user did not say that there was a fitmant issue, so I guess there wasn't. After cutting their MDX and fanning out the top rear perch, they are ok with the result.
Someone, cut 2 1/4 coils off of his OEM springs, to get the ride height that he liked and said that he was ok with the feel of the ride.
No one (that I could find) has tried the H&R #51816 springs, for a 2011 - 2016 Odyssey, on their 2nd gen MDX.
No one (that I could find) has tried the H&R # 51815 on the rear and the H&R #51810 on the front.
Here's what H&R offers, for lowering Honda Odysseys:
Odyssey 2000 - 2004 #51810
Odyssey 2005 - 2007 #51815
Odyssey 2008 - 2010 Not Available
Odyssey 2011 - 2016 #51816
Here's what Acura lists, for its springs:
2001 - 2001 rear (both) 52441 s3v a03
2001 - 2002 front (both) 51401-s3v 305
That would be me. Still riding fine going on two years. Thought it might be bouncy with spring rates going up but so far so good. I'm also riding on 20" with lower profile than stock diameter too.
I bought front camber correcting bolts but didn't need it. I did need rear upper adjustable control alarms which I bought SPC arms. The range though could only get me negative one degree of camber and not zero in the back. Still not bad and tires should survive.
Still contemplating on doing new shocks only due to age and mileage but they still ride good.
I just tried both the H&R #51815 and #51816 spring kits and can guarantee without a doubt that they do not fit a 2011 MDX. I only tried the fronts because the rears don't seem like they would be a problem. Even if you flipped upside down the front springs on the #51815 springs, they will fit the top but not the bottom which is much larger in diameter than the upper part.
I took some pictures of both kits comparing the diameter and height differences of both kits compared to each other and of the diameter of the stock spring vs the #51815 spring but I don't see the option to upload pictures as i'm typing out this reply.
