2010-2013 Steering wheel retrofit with paddles

Just wondering, how much thicker is the newer steering wheel? Also, is it possible to wire up the paddles so they actually work on a 2007-2009 model?
I know other cars that have been done, just wasn't sure if anyone here has done so...if so please share your story!!
I'm thinking of getting a 2012 wheel, one for the reason the steering wheel is thicker....missing my M3 steering wheel....paddle shifters would be nice, missing from my X5....
If you have the wiring diagram that would be helpful!!!
Where's SuperTech and HTL Motorsports when you need them...surely one of these guys has wiring diagram to make paddle shifters work....
thanks

Would not work. Transmission different from '09 to '10.

That sounds like such a job that you should think about just trading in for a 2010+.

Ah ok....wasn't sure that is why I am asking. Kinda stinks but I can live with that. Just make something to fill in the gaps behind the steering wheel.
If I was in America I surely would have gotten a 2010+.....
Just because gas is so cheap in the states and the car itself would we cheaper then it would be here in Canada.

Don't know about "cheap" gas here in the states. Here in CT, I just paid $4.29/gallon for Exxon Supreme. Gas taxes here in CT are, I think, worst in the entire 50 states (or pretty darn close). Have to ask my brother-in-law who lives in Toronto. Guessing Canada is still higher, but when I was in Ontario last summer, I thought it wasn't too much more than here. Like I said CT gas tax is brutal. Anyway, about the steering wheel. Last year I finally got around to putting the Acura wood trim wheel on my '09, but I thought about getting a '12 wheel in taupe (even though Parts Manager said it wouldn't fit), and making two plugs for the holes where the paddle shifters would go. I saw where others swapped the 10-12 wheel in for the '07-'09 ones. Thought long (a year) and hard, finally decided to get the correct (year-wise) '09 replacement. Love it.

I have a 2012 wheel in my 08 and while the thickness difference is not that much it still is a nice noticeable improvement but will feel nothing like my E90 M3's steering wheel..

Hey gitchies, I really doubt that this would actually work out for you. Also SuperTech and HTL Motorsports is something really out of date now.

I think I'll grab a 2010+ wheel...i like the look of it and thickness....and yes, won't compare to and BMW M3 thats for sure!!!
I'll just live with the cut outs or have dead paddles

Avg gas here, is about $6 a gallon...
Cigarettes are $10.50 a pack
Case of 24 beers $40 for non premium brands
So yes, everything is cheaper in America.....

I would venture to say that California easily has the most expensive gas in the whole U.S., including HI:

Gas Prices: 25 Most Expensive Cities - ABC News

That link is a year old, but the trends shouldn't be any different. 17 out of the top 18 cities cited are in California. Bridgeport, CT, does come in at #25, though.

Yep, with the exception of California 99% elsewhere is still cheaper then Canada.
Roughly 1.45 a liter(4 litres to a gallon) thats what we pay in Canada.

Oooh. wow, almost$6 a gallon? Yikes. We're not that bad-yet. Of course, if our genius guv in Hartford has his way with getting rid of vehicle property tax, then who knows where the gas tax goes. Very unlikely though.
