hello, bought my brand new mdx two months ago, already did running boards, roof rack, some leds, back up hids and fog hids. Now It is time for subwoofer :29:
Does anyone knows here how deep is stock subwoofer enclosure is? I need like 4-3/4 for my Image Dynamics ID8 D2 V.3
Your help is appreciated :29:

I have the Alpine SWR-843D Type R which is 4.5" deep. I used a 3/4" MDF Spacer and it still wasnt enough. I was able to cut out a small portion of the plastic waffling inside of the enclosure to get it to fit.

I would guess its about 3.5 " deep.

Keep in mind if you use a spacer, the sub will have to stick out of the rear trim panel since the subwoofer cover will no longer fit over it.

Only upgrade the sub if youre planning on doing the amp too. Otherwise its a waste of time and money.

Also, my system is an 07 ELS sytem....it may differ than yours.

Can you take a picture of your engine firewall where did you run power cable?

I will take it apart this weekend. Will check how deep is for sure. I was looking all over the place for answer and it varies 3-5 inches. I will not use any spacers, want to keep stock look.
If my bad boy will not fit, will go to best buy and buy shallow mount pioneer subwoofer.

i will install Alpine MRP-M500 Monoblock amp. It is small and powerful enough.

I replaced mine with a pioneer shallow mount 8 inch sub. The factory sub is basically the same as the shallow mount just not the same quality of course since it is factory. I tapped into the factory wiring inside the sub box to get a signal for my amp which is mounted in the rear storage compartment.

in order to change subwoofer you will need to take side panel. There is no way to remove just subwoofer grill.

It will sound much worse. You need to change amp with the speakers.
i did try to change just speakers with 2ohm infinity kappas. No improvement just made it sound more silent.

no and yes, no difference in sound.

^^^ why would you want to turn your amp with radio???
You are good right now.
wired my remote wire from fuse box...

Ok thanks.

When I had an 04 MDX, I had BestBuy do the Amp install.
They went from behind the factory deck for the install, and they ran a remote wire from the front....end result, the Amp will shut off when the factory stereo shut off.

Why I would prefer this again?

Ideally on battery drainage when I am not using the stereo while parked, chillin, might be charging a device, etc...
Also, most times I do find myself driving without the stereo on. Now the Amp is on for no reason. Most likely the cover is down, and the Amp is getting hotter.

And I am thinking to add a second Amp, which could be more drainage, more heat, and on for no reason when not in use.

Pic shows where amp will be, and the cigarette lighter power source used as remote.

I found this post, speculating the colour codes for the wires.
I might be thinking of going behind the deck in search of a remote connect, and doing it myself.

I got this from a very kind installer.
Can someone help me decipher this:

"Subwoofer (+/-)--The speaker wires are blue - grey (1); red - black (2) at the amplifier behind glove box, gray 18 pin plug, pins 12 - 3; 17 - 8 (base model). or blue - pink at the amplifier, gray 18 pin plug, pins 10 - 1 (except base model)"

What I get is this, and please anyone correct me if i'm wrong.
blue and grey are +
red and black are -

I would use blue and grey or red and black as the + and -

I think the reason for the 2 pairs of wires, is because the sub is a dual voice coil and the amp is feeding each coils separately.

Once I opened up mine, if all the wires are the same as yours, i would use the red and black, connect that to the high level of an amp and see how it sound. This is what I would.
Notice, i'm saying what I would do. I only saying this because i'm not 100% sure. But for me, experimenting with this option cannot seem to hurt.
I'm in the process of building some speaker pods so i'm not sure when i'll get to opening up the sub compartment, but i hope it's soon.
