Question mityvac to drain/extract transmission fluid?

hey guys, in reading the procedure to change the transmission fluid, it is a "3x3" process to roughly replace 85% of the fluid over 3 consecutive changes with driving in between to mix with the old.i'm assuming this is procedure because the drain hole sits above much of the fluid and only 1 out of 3 quarts can actually drain out.

has anyone tried using a mityvac or similar devise to vaccum extract the fluid or is there something else preventing a hose from reaching down into the bottom of the fluid housing?

No, the drain releases all the fluid in the ATF reservoir, however the ATF in the torque converter (5-6 qts?) is not drained. Hence multiple drain/drive/replace cycles are used by most to replace all ATF.

All ATF can be removed by releasing one of the ATF cooling hoses to the radiator and starting engine to pump the entire old ATF from the trans w/ trans pump. See following video for procedure on an Accord. Same for MDX.

I've done this by myself, but you have to be nimble to pump out 1-2 qts, stop engine, refill trans reservoir, and continue. A helper makes it easier.

good luck

I found this video for transmission fluid changes for theMDX. You may want to take a look at this as well.
