2008 MDX: A/C not cooling

Hey guys,

My A/C stopped cooling recently, even though the two big fans at the front turn on and off as needed. What could I check by myself to diagnose it?

I've searched around and heard the fuses was a good place to start, but it's not clear to me which fuses to inspect. There is one called "A/C inverter", but there is no fuse there and no metal contacts if I was to put one in. Anyway, I'm sure it's worked in this state as it only failed recently.

Also, unlike some other A/C problems others have, mine is consistent (as opposed to working and not working at different times).

Thanks,
Pav

For cooling to occur, the compressor must engage when AC is commanded On. Is compressor engaging and running?

If not, suspect a leak has allowed charge to drop to level where AC pressure switch disables compressor.

Usual causes are condensor leak due to rock damage or ac hose end crimp leak. Look for evidence of leak as oily/dirty smudge. Leak allows ac oild to escape and oil attracts dirt.

good luck

Where is the compressor relative to the two big fans, and what would indicate that it's running?

If you have to ask, you probably need some help w/ experience.

Compressor is on pax side, beneath alternator on front side of engine. The pulley to the compressor always turns (driven by serpentine belt). When compressor engages, the inner face (clutch) is pulled to the driven pulley by magnetic force and compressor shaft turns to compress the refrierant. So you must observe the inner face w/ engine running and ac commanded. Compressor clutch face should engage sometime, but usually will not run 100% of the time.

good luck
