battery needs replacing??? wtf

just took the 2011 mdx with 5500 miles out of the garage and the computer said the battery needs replacing. wtf. we had the battery software up date while ago and never got any problems from that. You guys thinks the battery is actually dead or its a sensor / software problem again. we r in nj not too cold just 32 with snow. Not a happy bunny. The computer said turn everything off, the car may.not start again and to call roadside assistance if we get stuck. grrrr

thoughts?

My '11 had the battery replaced at around the same mileage. The dealer, who checks the battery on every visit, found it to be bad and replaced it under warranty. I had no indication of a problem.

Just a FYI; battery was replaced under warranty. Bad cell apparently. My feeling is the HFL drained it though...

Battery in my 2008 just died overnight. Anyone used a AGM replacement? Any problems with using one of these rather than lead-acid one? Thanks, Mike

How many places are you going to copy and paste this post? It's fine to use AGM other than the cost, people do it everyday.

My battery died a few weeks ago. 2008 MDX with 88,000 miles. Bought a CR recommended Kirkland battery at Costco for something like $70. Works great. Left car in 10 F weather for a week over Christmas break. Started perfectly.

Costco has a great warranty too.

I may go aftermarket if this happens again as well. What's the the CCA on your Kirkland? They put another OEM in mine the same 31500-spl-2ah100m 610CCA battery. I think these cars need at least 800+ CCA?

My battery died in front of the Costco! It was -23C outside before Xmas. Couldn't find better place! Got he Costco tire guy to put a new battery for me, was out in 20 min. My battery lasted me for over 5 years.

I'm surprised he did that for you - might be different in Canada, but at the Costco's I've visited in the US they won't put the battery in for you for some reason.
Generally I think Costco has outstanding customer service and all else equal would purchase things from them, but in this case they're dropping the ball.

We're probably the most lawsuit-happy country around. That's very likely the reason.

On a side-note, you can tell the battery will be needing replacement by some warning signs.
For my MDX, when I turned the key to crank, the instrument panel with the MPH dials and tachnometer dimmed a lot. Normal it would dim a little when cranking, but to completely darken out; this meant the battery was extremely low.

The Costco manager - who I asked for help first- told me that they are not trained to replace batteries, but I told him that I can do it myself if they allow me to bring the car inside their garage. Remember, it was bitterly cold outside that day. He was really nice to me!
