2008 MDX Heater Blower
I started hearing this whining noise that was related to the heater blower speed. Changing the fan speed, varied the sound. I first checked the filter and it was in pretty good shape, I looked around the filter compartment with the filter out to see if there was anything amiss, but alas, everything looked fine, no debris or small animals to be found.
I ordered a new blower and it arrived today. I installed it in about 45 minutes without much trouble. The panel directly under the glove box has to be removed. It is best to pull it from the top, slightly downwards and toward the rear of the vehicle. It is held in by 3 metal clips. Make sure you find the clips and find where they go on the panel and put them back right away. There are two wires attached to the panel that need to be disconnected and the panel can be safely put aside. There is one connector that is stubborn. Don't force it. Use a small screwdriver to push on the top of the connector toward the wire, that will slide off and enable the bottom to come off. It's sort of a lock piece. Now that the panel is removed look under the glove box and the blower motor is right under the dash. It is held in by 3 screws. I used a Torx 25 to take them out. Remove the wire that is attached to the blower. It's a little tight taking out the blower, but it will come out. Reassembly is just the reverse. You might want to check the blower by starting the car and running the fan speed up and down before you put the panel back. Remember to reconnect all the wires at the respective connectors. The panel goes back with the firewall legs end in first, then the panel comes up. Carefully note were the plastic alignment guides are on the panel and where the clips are and slowly guide them towards the dash. At the very end you'll need to bag the panel with heel of your closed fist to snap the panel in. That's it. Good luck.

Songdog, thanks for the information. Luckily I haven't had this issue yet. Can you tell me what was the cause of your fan blower to begin making noise?

I really don't know. I'm guessing that its bearing lubrication issue, or bearing failure related to lack of lubrication. I'm surprised that the part failed, in that we have a 2001 TL-S that aside from the known transmission issues, other than a replacement battery and a couple of blown dash lights (transmission indicator), clock light, sketchy radio volume control, there has been nothing wrong or replaced on the vehicle in 11 years. I kinda expected the same service with the MDX, but alas, it was not to be.

Mine too showed same symptoms. Was replaced under warrenty last year.
Started with a very low humming/fluttering sound that would last for first few seconds

Songdog, thanks for posting these details, hopefully I won't have to deal with this issue. I'll be bring in the MDX to the dealer for a complete check prior to the warranty ending. Hopefully they'll catch all the issues and bugs.
