Sharp Wheels!

No, no pictures because I mean SHARP WHEELS literally! This is only the second time I've had to wash our 2012 MDX with factory 18" wheels. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.

In order to clean the brake dust off not just the outside of the wheel, but also inside the wheel, I spray a wheel cleaner onto the surfaces. I then use a sponge to wipe the inside of the wheel, reaching behind the "spokes" and running the sponge behind each of the five "spokes" along the circumference of the wheel. I then also wash the back side of the "spokes" by running the sponge up and down the back sides of them.

I have cut my hands and fingers each time I've done this because the back side of the "spokes" are a sharp machined surface instead of being rounded or blunt! The ideal way to clean these wheels would be to remove each separately and clean them when they are off the car. That would be the ideal way, but it's not a practical way!

I guess I will have to wear some Kevlar gloves from now on when cleaning these wheels.

I bought a couple of wheel brushes that are basically sponges on bendable wire covered with a nylon mesh. It's easy to get into and behind the spokes. The mesh does get cut up a bit, but the brushes are cheap from Harbor Freight.

Yep, just returned from the store with a wheel brush. It's about 5 inches long and the metal base can be bent to get behind the "spokes" without having to stick my hands in there. I'll check Harbor Freight next time I'm on that side of town for the type you have.

If your mesh is also getting cut up, there are sharp edges back there!
