2009 MDX Running Boards

Hi
Just bought my wife a 2009 MDX for her b-day last week and ordered a set of running boards on ebay from an Acura dealer for $400. Was going to install them myself but I'm having problems with getting the screws to thread and tighten... seems like they don't want to fit.
Anyone have this issue with these factory boards?

Were they the real OEM ones or OEM replicas? I've heard that the OEM replicas have very poor fitment.

How do you tell the difference? I was looking at those running boards too. I know that the replicas should cost about half what the OEM ones do, but aside from that is there anyway to tell?

^^sounds like you have the OEM boards since you bought them from an acura dealer.

which screws are you talking about? the big bolts that attach the running board to the car?

Ah looks like I mis-read that detail. Yeah if they are from an Acura dealer then yes it should be OEM.

hey, bought them from curry acura off ebay.
Im talking about the bolts/screws that hold the three brackets to the car's frame. The holes/threads in the frame seem to be too small for those screws. Should i look for smaller screws of the same length, or try to get the threads opened up a bit? Im going to wd40 the frame tomorrow and see if maybe some surface rust is causing them stick and not turn. Worst case, I'll head to a dealer and get them fitted on...I just wanted to get these boards attached on my own

Oh you know what, maybe they mixed up the model year? I think '10-'13 sides are different than '07'-09. That might explain the bolt size difference.

No it should be the same for 07-09 and 10-13. Reason is I have the advance boards on my 07 which came out for the 10's.

Make sure the holes are clear of any undercoating the could make the holes smaller or of there is any dirt / grime.

Had the same issue on my 08, ordered boards from Curry Acura as well. Ended up having to re-thread all the holes because they were uncovered and had rust/dirt/grime.

This is caused by road debris and rust. You need to get a tap and re-thread each hole.

I just put Advanced Boards on today that I got from Curry Acura with no problems..
Mine is a 2011 so likely not enough time to muck up the screw holes in the frame.
I also installed the roof rack today..
and will install Curt trailer hitch tomorrow..
Hoo haaa

Heller

hey everyone..sorry to post on such an old post but i'm having similar issues and was hoping someone could help..

i have a 2007 acura mdx and i bought spyder running boards and the M8x40 doesn't seem to fit in the hole that connects board brackets onto the car.. my question is what size is the hole in the car?? M8 doesn't fit but an m7x1.00 does BUT thread spacing needs to be 1.25.. M8 does not bite but the m7 does.....just wrong threading.. i just wanted to see what your experiences were.. thanks in advance.. and sorry about the rambling..
