12 V Accessory Plug wiring?
Hello,
I would like to add a 12v accessory power plug that is always powered (even when the vehicle is urned off). I noticed what appears to be 3 unused connectors behind the glove box (up and to the left) that are different colors (gray, brown, blue). I don't have the electrical service manual. Any suggestions where would be a safe place to tap into (<10 amps)? Thanks! I enjoy the forum. Steve 2012 MDX w/Tech pkg |

I would suggest the easiest way is to tap into the ignition harness (brown plug) behind the key cylinder..
There is 6-7 heavy gauge wire... the the constant 12volt is the white wire. But why would you want it constant?? if you leave it plugged in it will drain your battery. |

I used to have the constant on Power Outlet feature on my Jeep and miss it.
But my MDX Advance really eats up electrical power and although you have Tech ... Caution on this is advised since you could easily run into Battery Mgt issues.

I want to monitor the battery voltage without having to open the hood. And I have a hand held CB radio that is my emergency secondary comm device. Good point, I expected a larger capacity battery in the X considering all the electronics, one reason to characterize it. I found and purchased the electrical troubleshooting manual (big $$$) and received it yesterday. Since I don't have the Advance, one location may be the AC Inverter connector that I am hoping is taped up in the center console. I will explore today. (Not sure why that would need to be hot with the power off, hmmm.) Thanks for the replies... |

UPDATE...
FYI, my plan was to use the AC Inverter connector since I don't have Ent/Advance. Couldn't find it in the center console. To make a long story short, I connected the 12v wire to a bayenet (sp?) connector on the underhood fuse box and went thru the wire harness rubber grommet in the firewall. My power connector is fused at 10A so methinks it will be fine. On an aside, it seems whenever I check the battery voltage, it's around 12.26v at room temp. Seems low. Wife is out driving several miles so I will check it when she gets home. I believe 'normal' would be around 12.6v. Thanks all, Steve |
