We've crossed 7,500 and just hit 15% on the oil life monitor (OLM). I picked up some oil and will change out soon. Based on my experience with the Honda OLM, it's programmed conservaively. I had a few oil samples sent off on our Odyssey and they all came back well within spec between 7k-9k miles on conventional and synthetic oil. I was going to take the MDX to the dealer as they only charge $25, but it's just a pain to schedule an appt. Plus I enjoy doing it myself and knowing it gets done and gets done right. I might have this one sampled just for fun.

*Just a side note, for those of you who have yet to do an oil change: I checked my oil level @ ~ 4K, and I was short about 1qt. If you're going to go until ≤ 15% on the MID before performing your first oil change, it's a good idea to check your oil level and add oil accordingly.

I think it's normal for engines to consume some oil when they're new. After being broken in, it shouldn't be a noticeable issue.

Hey guys, Happy New Year. I have another question; what other maintenance DIY you guys do on the X? I've done some simple mods and maintenance such as changing the air filters, cabin filters, changing the tires from winter to summer and rotating them. Any other DIY suggestions for the X?
