Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Message

Had this light come on yesterday. I park my car in a heated garage (17C or 65F temperature).

I then went out and the car was parked outside for an hour (0C or 32F temperature).

When I left the light came on. Gas cap was tight. Drove to my new destination which took 30 minutes and parked the car outside for 12 minutes. When I restarted the car, the message was gone.

I suspect the temperature differences caused the fuel to contract and decrease in volume, decreasing the gas tank pressure and tricking the computer into thinking that the gas cap was off.

Anyone have any other explanations? This is the first time this has happened.

Your suggested explanation is As good as any I have heard or been given so far. Have had gas cap replaced and a bunch of other stuff tweaked and nothing has done any good. I still get it every so often and so far I haven't been able to pin it down so I just gave up and live with it. I have a friend who has a 07 TL and he gets the message all the time and they can't find a way to fix it for him.

2008 MDX. The continuous event occurred twice since new. First time took three trips and a call to Acura headquarters before it was fixed. Said it was a bad purge valve. Now in the second continuous event. Made 100 round trip, they put a new gas cap on it, warning came on less than 20 miles after leaving dealership.

Made me pay $41 for gas cap install even though I have AcuraCare extended warranty.
