07 Grille Bubbling....

The metallic foil-type substance on the grille of my 07 MDX is bubbling up big time. Anyone else?

Yes, other owners have posted on this. Dealer replacement is your best solution, other than painting it a different color.

There was a design defect in the 2007 grilles which would cause the bubbling that you're currently experiencing, as well as discoloration (bronzing). Just bring it in at your next service and they'll replace it with a newer, updated one, no questions asked. At least that's what they did with mine, and after a year it still looks new.

Regards,
Adam

Well, unfortunately I'm outside warranty on my 2007 MDX. However, Acura did step up and offer some significant assistance.

Add me to this list.

Washed the car this afternoon and found that the upper grille had bubbled all along the lower edge.

Time to set up an appointment.

Step up??? Did they charge you or replaced it for free?

I'm in same situation and what to be able to discuss this issue with service rep on next appointment.

Thanks...
Sergio

Well that's not good... I'm going to have to keep an eye on mine going forward.

There's no TSB released on this issue by Acura?

I have not seen a TSB on it but it happened to my 07 after about 6 months. They replaced it no problem. I would think if you make a big enough stink w/ your dealer in a nice way, they will get approval for a goodwill repair since this is appearing to be a more common issue. I am sure it was a problem with the vendor so Acura is probably not paying for the whole thing.

I would hope that Acura would replace for free anything that is due to a "design defect", even out of warranty.

I doubt it, but I wonder if the new 2010 grille would be plug and play. I imagine they'd tweak the outline of that and the headlights but we'll see.

I thought the warranty was for 3 years. I need to check my paperwork again.

Warranty is 4 years OR 50k miles bumper to bumper and 7/70 on the powertrain. I would maybe do a poll on some Acura sites and see how many people have had the grill replaced. That should give you some ammunition with them that this is a more common problem and that it should be replaced under goodwill. Its clearly a manufacturing defect in materials or craftsmanship.

I forgot about the mileage limit. We don't drive out MDX that much, about 8k miles a year. So I will get the full time before I hit the mileage limit.

Just noticed the bubbling on my grill this weekend too. I'll get this taken care of at my next service visit, cuz it's ugly.
