Lock actuator cost to fix?

I noticed today on our 05 MDX that the passenger side door does not respond to to the any remote locking mechanism (i.e. the all door lock switch or the remote).

I can physically lock or unlock however

Someone in the forum seemed to have the same problem(except on drivers side) and the response was the lock actuator. If this is the case, how much would that cost to get fixed?

(I want to do this myself but my wife said I'm too busy to. Is this something I can do myself?) so probably going to the dealership to get this done

Thanks!

If you got some mechanical skills you can probably do it yourself. Not sure what the cost is. I've never done it, but it seems simple enough.

This thread that had some notes about taking it apart.

If I remember right the part is about $30 and it took me about an hour to replace.

All that is required is that the door pannel get taken off a sheet of plastic that needs to be removed as well. once that is moved out of the way it will expose the unit and the rods that must be disconnected. Some of the rods are a little awkward to get to, but not that hard. I do suggest you pick up a Helms service manual on ebay for your MDX as it is requirement for those that don't have a lot of experience. The manuals are illustrated and written so well a monkey could take your car apart and put it back together. Without it your wife might be right in saying we should have paid to have it done.

Got it done

Hey gang

Just got it done at the dealership for $265, took them about 1 1/2 hours.

I just don't have the time to do these kind of things (barely have time to mow the lawn).

Plus I don't trust myself to actually put it back together correctly. Maybe when it actually becomes my car (Its my wife's) I'd be more willing to tinker with it

It was indeed the actuator

Thanks for all the help and confirmation

They didnt take so long. At least its fixed. Did you have symptoms prior to the actuator failing? Mine started to make a buzzing noise when locking. I was still under warranty and the dealer replaced them.

Nope. No indication what so ever. I only really noticed it when I went to open the door after unlocking the car with the remote and the door stayed locked.

The funny thing is 30 minutes earlier it was working but by the time I went on my final errand it just stopped

Mine only started working 50% of the time before it totally failed

Interesting. I'll always pay someone to mow my lawn because it's time consuming, and cheap for me to pay someone else to do it, but I'd replace the lock actuator myself every time because of the cost.

I did it on my wife's GMC pickup - took two tries to get the correct actuator, but the actual replacement took less than an hour. As another poster wrote, getting the rods connected was the hardest part. On the GMC, you have to disconnect the rods from the handle, remove them from the door and mount them on the new actuator while it's out of the door, then install the whole assembly into the door, and reconnect the rods to the handle.

Had no idea I saved myself over $200 by doing it myself. I need to go out and treat myself to a new toy now.

Can anyone help me find a passenger side door lock actuator?

Believe it or not, every parts supplier on the Net seems to be out of stock of the passenger side door lock actuator for Acura MDXs. I found the driver's side everywhere I look from several different manufacturers, including:

Part Number: 5919-06001704 from Replacement Parts
Part Number: W0133-1801627 from VDO
Part Number: 5919-07057102 from Dorman

All of these are for Driver's side. In fact, I can't even find a part number for the passenger side, even when I call ths distributors on the phone. What gives?

I just want to replace the rear driver ANd passenger side door lock actuators on my 2003 Acura MDX and don't seem to be able to find replacement parts.

Can someone help me out with a part number and location to buy for both driver and passenger side?

Thanks.

hey was reading about problems with door actuators. i have a 2006 mdx and all of a sudden nothing would unlock except the drivers door with the remote and the main switch. what is odd the passenger door switch will only unlock the drivers door. the two rear doors and the hatch will not work at all? not sure what is happening, but if someone out there could send me in the right direction i really would appreciate it.. thanks Greg
