This may be too late in posting. The brand you want to look for is called Auto Expressions, Ventfresh airfresheners
. Pep boys in my area, colorado springs, has a better choice than autozone. They still run about 3-4$ for four. AE vent clips look better in the vents than the refresh brand which have big round white head that clash with the black.

There is a link for what they look like.

Modified Auto Expressions air freshener for vent clip

I took one of the Auto expressions vent clips cut it down and slotted it. Sanded the end and hit it with some flat black spray paint. Less than 20 minutes and under $3 per clip.

That looks pretty good. Just coincidentally stumbled upon this thread as I just noticed my driver's side tab has gone missing. Must've fallen off somewhere and I'm not sure where it is. I like the clean simple look of what you did with that vent clip.

I gave the 3d a try today. Its a little chunky so I might remix it a bit.

I got some of these, and it's a slam dunk, no-brainer compared to buying new vents. $20-something shipped to replace all four of the seriously under-designed originals...

Yeah, I paid $10.50 a pop, but that's still a small fraction of any other option I had, and the vent clips are a LOT better designed than the originals (so I won't be replacing them again in a year or two). The finish is not quite up to Acura standards, but you really have to be anal to even notice. Hey....
