Update: Just ordered my parts from Tim, spoke to him online through AIM, and he was VERY helpful. Hopefully, it will be here next week before Thursday, as I am leaving for Vegas on Saturday morning, and would love to do all this work before taking the road trip.

Update: Parts came are in from Tim! Super fast shipping from FedEx. Actually came in yesterday, but I was out all day. So tomorrow is the moment of truth. I was going over the plan of attack, and originally, I was going to replace each part one by one, to see if each part would make a difference, but seeing that I do not have enough time, I am going to install everything at once: spark plugs, pcv valve and egr valve. Oh and if anyone is wondering everything came out to under $200 shipped to my door.

Sweet! What did you manage to average for your MPG? I'm leaving for Vegas today, and before I did any of the maintaince I was averaging 19 MPG. I hope I can average 22 MPG on this trip.

Update: I finished doing the PCV Valve, EGR Valve and Spark Plugs, yesterday, (Ill do a write up on it when I get a chance). So my observations, the roughness in the start up idle is still around, so I'm actually going to take it back to the shop that did my 100K and see what they say. Maybe a valve adjustment? But there's not ticking noise. My temp guage is lower by an 1/8 of an inch and the car is more responsive.

Well my X has poor gas mileage right now, I think she needs a tune up. As for the socal trip, I averaged 17.3 mpg over 1100 miles which includes LA traffic, street driving and 80-85mph on highway 5 and 101. I drive pretty aggressively so that's probably why there poor gas mileage lol.

Im the same way, especially in the city. But I think Im going to cruise it down there, probably set the cruise control to 75. I want to shoot for at least 20 MPG. Does any one have any suggestions as to how many PSI I should put on my tires for this trip?

This weekend my wife and I drove to La Cantera Hotel and golf club near San Antonio from Katy, TX, about 180 miles each way. We drove 65-70 mph when possible. Mileage was 17.8 mpg average for the trip to San Antonio, but was 21.2 mpg on the way back. Winds were generally very light, however there is approximatly 900 feet of elevation change over that trip, which seems to be the differentiator. We were using 89 octane gasoline.

Mileage of 20 mpg average should be possible on reasonably level ground w/ no serious winds resisting, but will take a light touch on accelerator and restricting speed to 70 mph or less. I don't think 20 mpg is possible in city driving. Something around 15-16 seems about as good as you can achieve.

Regards

I've done 21.8mpg driving 75-80mph from Chicago to Port Huron, MI this past June. 5 passengers, luggage. I ran 93 octane.

My daily is commute is around 15 miles 75% highway + 25% local.

16.85 odd gallons gave me around 343.3 miles(20+mpg), usually i drive around 63-70 mph, of course try to coast as much as possible.

OK, so Im back! The X held up and took a beating. Over 1500 miles logged during the trip and in 120 Degree weather! In the first leg of the trip I managed 23.5MPG!!!! Thats on the i5 doing 70MPH with 3 adults and infant and a fully packed trunk and a full tank of 91 octane @ Chevron. Then it fluctuated between 23.5 and 19.5 MPG during the whole trip. I was averaging 17MPG mixed before the tune up. BUT, my problem still exist, so Im taking it to the shop this week and will report back with their suggestion.

Wow! My X is really suffering on mpg then! I just had the timing belt and water pump done. The rough idle was gone. My brother in law who worls at acura said the belt could have been slightly stretched and caused the misfires and rough idle. The misfires are gone and it's running much better on mpg, getting 18.3 right now aroundthe bay area. He's going to do my valve adjustment soon. He said when he hooked up the car and read the logs for the MAF, he said the exhaust valves needs an adjustment and will help improve my gas mileage.

I've never been able to get more than 20mpg in the Central Valley. I've never been able to get better than 18mpg on So.Cal. freeways. Never been able to get better than 15.1mpg on pure surface street driving. Go figure....and I've run all grades of fuel to test it...87, 89, 91 and 92. I haven't tried the 100 you can get at some places in So.Cal., but I figure at that point, I'd be wasting my money, at least with the MDX.

Could you detect any difference in performance or mpg when using the various grades?

regards

I logged about 5,000 miles road trip from MN to WA and around about a few weeks ago loaded with 2 adults, 2 kids, loaded full size cooler and packed the back area with stuff. Average miles per gal = 19.98.
Next year will be MN to MA................maybe I'll take my Accord instead.

You know what. Your exactly right, its more of a "miss" than anything. I hope that its just a stretched belt.
