Under seat Nav DVD drive removal

Hi Ya'll,

First let me say that I did search for this and didn't come up with anything relevant. Maybe I didn't use the right keywords.

What's the best way to remove the under seat dvd drive on an 02?

I see two bolts (one on the left and one on the right) of the drive, if I remove those, will the drive come out or does the seat have to come out?

I got bored and took the bolts off. Seat has to come out. Waiting for a bit with the battery disconnected so the airbags power down.

Well got the serial number and called Acura this morning, Nav is up and running......
good lord, the maps are ugly... GPS has come a long way in 10 years!

Heck, I'm just happy the time is right now.

I may need to remove/replace the Nav Drive on mine. Doesn't seem to be working anymore. I thought it was the screen (black), but I've tried two replacements and nothing. So now I suspect it's the Nav DVD drive that is bad.

So I have to remove the seat to get the drive out?

I did not have to remove the seat on my '04. Just two bolts holding the NAV drive in place. Just look under the seat, I think you will see them.

Yeah, on my 04, just pulled the two bolts, slide out drive and disconnect cables. Rather easy. Had to replace entire drive a couple years back. Sent to Apline, cost about $125.

It costs $368 to repair the DVD drive from Alpine now. I ordered a used one off of Ebay for $200, let's hope that works.

What is the number for Acura to get the security code for the unit? Is it tied to the DVD drive or the Nav screen?

After all the work I went to sending my Nav screen to Alpine and getting it back (apparently unfixable due to water damage), and buying a used screen and used DVD Nav unit, the fix was something simpler.

I unplugged and plugged back in all the connectors to the DVD drive, and now the original screen works. I think that after 10 years, probably some corrosion made the contacts not so great. The action of removing and plugging the plugs back in probably scraped enough off to make things work again.

Now I have a working Nav Screen and DVD drive to sell since I don't need them
