02 MDX - #9 (Radio) fuse pops when gear lever moved out of park

Hello MDX gurus, I have read almost a hundred posts but I am not having any luck with my 2002 MDX. When I move the gear stick out of park, immediately the navigation/radio go out as the #9 fuse has popped. I have no idea why. Suggestions?

As well, brake lights work biput the 3rd brake light does not. I don't know if this is related but they don't work with or without a good fuse. My brake sensor appears to be functioning. It think it may be a short but I am not sure where to look.

Any help would be appreciated.

John

Fuse popping = short circuiting. If possible I would pull out the radio and check the wiring harness going to it very carefully. Look for loose/broken/exposed wires. As far as the third brake light not working, did you check the brake fuse? Bulb?

Put a new fuse in with MDX in neutral and parking brake set. Then go to Drive and see if it pops. If it doesnt pop when going to drive, shift to reverse.
Could be something to do with the reverse systems such as back up camera.

I'd bet money that you have damage in the wiring that runs between the body and the tailgate due to all the flexing over time. When you go into reverse, power is sent to the backup lights and the backup camera through that wiring. That would also explain the failing third brake light.
