Weird growl when accelerating

Our recently acquired 05 runs great, but has an odd kind of growl under moderate acceleration. Sounds like it is coming from under the car, maybe exhaust? It does not do it with slow acceleration. I hear about the V-Tec noise some people talk about, but our 03 Accord with 3.0 V6 never made that sound that I recall. I have never got out and romped on it hard, but it only seems to do it for a few seconds when given a little more gas than usual.
I don't think its anything to worry about, just curious if it's normal.

The engine note takes on a more serious note when you hit it hard above say 4500revs.

Moderate to 75% load acceleration, 2500-3500rpm, deeper tone growl.

It is just exhaust drone. The noise frequency resonating in the exhaust pipes. It is normal.

This made me curious. Tried to hear what mine sounded like above 4500 rpm. Without shifting to D2, it's nearly impossible to make happen. This thing LOVES to upshift. I'd HATE to see the MPGs these thing would get if not for the overly agressively upshifting transmission! I'm guessing 8-12mpg?

I haven't paid attention to the rpm's when it does it, but i doubt it's anywhere near 4500. I will check it out next time I drive it.
