Post Replacing instrument panel lights

I have a 2005 MDX, and I'd like to know where I can find instructions on how to replace the bulbs that light the button switches like the climate control switches above the nav screen, and also bulb that lights the gear shift selector in the center console. The dealer service shop charges $120.00 labor and doesn't include the cost of the bulb. Would appreciate any info you can share.

Well, the bulbs themselves are very inexpensive, only a few dollars each.

Anyway, I've bookmarked several topics for replacing the bulbs including the two you mention behind those eight A/C buttons above the nav screen. You might want to look at these links, because the description for removing and replacing the "plood" - the plastic-wood trim around the screen display - is going to be needed to access many of the bulbs you need to replace:

1. How To Replace Bulbs Behind HVAC Controls in Dash Center (has some good text description, but the photos are gone)

2. My iPod/Blitzsafe Install (has a good description of removing the plood and a few photos)

3. Phone Mounts (Startac/Timeport) (the photos in the posts by Mjaime on this, the second page of the topic, are particularly helpful)

Below is the parts diagram for the A/C controls for the 2005 MDX; click on it for the list of part numbers and prices.

Here's the clickable parts diagram for many of the other switches in the 2005 MDX:

Thank you very much! These diagrams are helpful, and I'll check out the links.

Links not working.

The links to the diagrams and part numbers seem to have gone away. Anyone have updated links?

Sorry about that. It's my post, so I can repeat it with links that work. Here you go...

This Is Great.
Thanks.
I just bought a 2006 with 141,000 miles. I'm adding a GTA iPhone adapter and figure if I've got the plood off I can replace some bulbs.

Good idea.

If I were you, I would replace all of those little bulbs in that area while you have it off - the two behind the eight climate control buttons, and the ones inside the two buttons alongside the nav screen (for the hazard lights and I think the passenger side SRS). Even if they are still working, better to spend the few bucks to start new and not have to deal with them going out in the near future.
