I have also encountered same error code P1740 and I have to contact the dealer for finding out the apt solution.

The link works. Heres some info I copied from it.

from Supertech.
"P1740 is actually for a problem in the 4th clutch."
"Your automatic transmission engages it's different gears or the lock up torque convertor by having a combination of these clutches engage. They are engaged by an electric solenoid that allows line pressure inside the transmission to flow to it's corresponding clutch pack. When the computer tells a particular clutch to engage, and it doesn't not see what it expects to see from the speed sensors in the transmission, it triggers a code for that particular clutch circuit."

from Rmoe.
"Just went through this problem last fall with the same code. Have you noticed the car stumble on acceleration usually between 20 to 35 (2nd to 3rd shift)? What you have is a torque converter going bad, or so the dealer says... "
