2005-2006 PCM Update for Lock Up Clutch Function
I just got a letter today from Acura Canada indicating that they want to "reprogram the software used to control the transmission" so as to minimize any "judder" (their exact word) that the 05/06 may experience as it gets older. Its a free service update that is supposed to take all day.
Sounds like they are trying to address the whole tran/TC issue as the symptoms of this "judder" is pretty much what people described in the tran/TC issue. I havent had any issues with mine and Im at 137k km. Anyone else get this letter?

Member henryleung also mentioned he received this letter two days ago for his 05. He had his TC replaced in 09. I definitely want to track this.

Thanks for posting that CDL! Yea, if you've seen the 04-06 TC/Trans thread, you'll know 54 members have reported this issue and got replacement. Recently a few who got replacements had a PCM update, but no details were given. The symptoms are the same as described in the letter.

ya its interesting that acura is now sending out a general recall for this issue...from what ive read from past members, this has been an ongoing fight. but it looks like acura is trying to do good with this? and im sure that this recall is a result of people discussing the problem on this forum.
as an fyi...i hadnt had any problems with my tran/TC and have none of the symptoms. i havent mentioned anything at all to my dealership (whom i deal with exclusively for maintenance *pretty much*)

So I called into the Acura dealership first thing this am. They had said that they are starting to get the calls about this letter and people are coming in to get the reprogram done. They said no problem, takes about an hour, no parts required, and theyve slotted me in for this afternoon.

Ok great. Wonder if you can pry out any details of what they are changing. By the way, did the letter give a range of VIN numbers of did it only have your VIN? If its only your VIN could you put the last 5 digits of yours, but you can omit the last 3. Example..12XXX
I wonder if this letter will help anyone who had to pay for out of pocket repairs get some sort of reimbursement. The letter doesnt say anything about it though. Guess the 04s are left out. For anyone who hasnt seen it. Heres a link to the main thread. 04-06 Trans/TC Failure Thread

it went off pretty smoothly.
i inquired about what it is actually doing to the vehicle, and the service guy wasnt much help. apparently they had only done one prior to mine. its all new to them too...as in theyve only known about this for the last couple of days. but i finally spoke to a mechanic and he thought that it was serving to delay the gear change from 3rd to 4th, but i put to him maybe it was from 4th to 5th since thats where the problems were reported. so sounds like higher revs. didnt really notice any difference in revs on the way back, but then i was in rush hour traffic so didnt really get a chance to let it out and see how it went through the gears. the letter didnt give a range of vin's, just my specific vin. but it did say only 05 and 06 mdx's.
