Does the X have an interference engine?

To the best of my knowledge, the X has an interference engine, i.e., if the timing belt breaks while the engine is running, the pistons will hit the valves, and ...............

However, on edmunds.com, they have reported a long-term test on the Pilot, which has the same engine as the X - their timing belt got ripped off (on the freeway doing 80mph), the engine stopped, but no damage! check out http://www.edmunds.com/new/2003/hond...alpage=page008

How is that possible?

Yes, it is an interference engine. Sometimes luck is on the side of the engine. However too often there is engine damage. Here is an MDX thread about this issue.

Here is a vehicle that was not lucky. Story titled "The Pilot is Dead (Part 2).
