ABS light always on tripping VTM-4 light
The ABS light is always on and the VTM-4 light comes on after maybe 2 minutes of driving. The dealer told me that the rear right speed sensor needed changing (code reader told them). I changed it but the ABS light won't clear.
1. How do I clear the ABS light? 2. What can I trouble shoot to decide what the problem is? Any help would be appreciated. Tks |

Get the two-digit code number and post it for help. You can access the codes yourself. See following link.
Vehicle Stability Assist good luck

According to index I have 11 is RF wheel sensor and 22 is LF pulser or tone ring.
If you intend to DIY, suggest a shop manual. check automanualsource on ebay for a download manual for $22. good luck

Is there a way to test the speed sensor? I was told that the rear right one was bad by the dealership and I don't want to go on a witch hunt replacing everything in vain.
Of the two (RF wheel sensor and LF pulser or tone ring), which one should be changed first? Are the indicator lights accurate? The ABS light first came on when I was backed into water enough to get the rear sensors wet. As soon as I pulled out the ABS light came on. I struggle with the idea that the front speed sensor went from doing that. Your thoughts? |

The codes suggest RF sensor & LF pulser.
I checked manual and there is a long diagnostic procedure. You can check resistance of sensor. It should be 450-2000 ohms. On other ABS system, I had success w/ simply removing the sensor, cleaning sensor, and cleaning pulser by stuffing rag down sensor hole to push against pulser (tone ring) and rotationg wheel. Dirt/grime on the sensor and pulser can cause poor signal and set a code. Worth a try. For details you need the shop manual I mentioned. good luck
